Oh...my!

This popped up last night, and looks to be a 24 hour listing. I suspect it's going to go high, and already out of my range (for now). Current high bidder is keeping his identify secret, too. This is one very beautiful pen!

It might be worth keeping an eye and scope crosshairs on. The last VMaster didn't fetch $200.

Can't see from the pictures if the pen has its metal jewel. Hard for me to understand why a seller would post 6 rotated pics of the pen showing the cap, without turning it slightly to show the impressive cross-hatched top jewel. It doesn't have the correct original issue shaded 9xxx nib either ....

Best Regards
Paul

Ooooh that one is pretty! Sadly too rich for my blood.

I had no idea that these auctions could be made private.

Okay, I'll bite. It *is* a nice looking pen. But nearly $190 US for an ESTIE? And it only has a 1xxx series nib? So what makes this so special? Because I've never paid more than around $30 for a J series pen -- and *that* had a 9788 flex nib.

Take a look at the clear portion of the section, just in front of the threads, for a clue. This is not just any old J. It is a "Visumaster. Scarce, lots of unique (for Esterbrook) elements, and pretty darn handsome! You can search FPN for some good info. I have an example in the same color. It really pops in person.

Not a bad price considering....

Someone did fine IMO.

Usually a clean Visu is $225 easy, $275 for a nice one's not shocking to me, at least on Fleabay. This is the 2nd one recently to Not hit $200.

Here's mine. I Did Not screw around with mine. It went forthwith to Herr Estie Doktur Farmboy at Spa Estie West for it's resac. Oh, and that 3668 Sunburst? That's NOS. No way in hell would I sell for that price tonight.

I saw it pop up late one night with a Green nearly new Tranny with a Ruby jewel. My hands literally could barely type out the BIN offer message they were shaking.

I about peed myself waiting for the guy to answer.

Thank God he was still near a pooder.

Let's just leave it at the listing was only up about an hour. ;)

I already had the boxed 3668 waiting for That Special Pen. That was it.

Paul Hobiwan scored 3 Copper Visumaster IIIs in one listing awhile back.

I should have gotten one of his when I had the chance. :(

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
