Who is getting the Montblanc Pix or Starwalker S-pen for their new Samsung Note 4? Belongs here because Samsung has also added a fountain pen mode to the handwriting capability.

Anyone who are unloading their fountain pen collection: just send it my way....

So what are MB making? A stylus?

Shame its for the Note 4 and not the iPad - I have no intention of getting a Samsung. I'd have thought MB would work with Apple not Samsung.

They have two version, its online but no purchase price. The good news is the new starwalkers themselves have arrived on the web site. They have the regular screen writers and that should work on the ipad. The samsung S pen is more then just a stylus hence its different.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I love both my MB and Apple products.

Samsung Galaxy Note tablets have two modes of operation: capacitive touch (like most other touch devices including Apple's) and inductive stylus. Those who have used a Wacom graphics tablet will be familiar with the latter. For the former, there are myriad products available that emulate a finger. Monteverde makes a few, for example.

I called MB, the info she can pull up is an October release, no firm date. The Midnight black pen with the E refill will run $533 , again she said don't hold her to that. The wonderful news is she found news the e refill will be available as well for $156. I will likely take my current black resin starwalker RB and just get the refill!

£350 on the UK store, I think: http://www.montblanc.com/en-gb/shop/writing-instruments/starwalker/midnight-black/e-starwalker-including-fineliner-exchange-112680.aspx

And £235 for the Pix: http://www.montblanc.com/en-gb/shop/writing-instruments/cruise-collection/black/pix-including-rollerball-exchange-112682.aspx

Well, the Note 4 will not be available until October, so the date makes sense. But it looks like it is available from the UK store (see links above)

I hope that is true so that I can do the same thing with my Starwalker fine liner.

This is what she told me after she researched in her system. Exciting because for just a digital stylus I didn't want to spend for an entire pen. If the refill for $156 is true I am certainly purchasing.

They have it on the US site as well, no pricing but the same call to purchase. That is when they stated it is not launched yet. Launching next to the phone makes sense. She stated her material just stated sometime in October no set dates.

  • 1 month later...

I have used both adonit and dagi stylus, the adonit is identical to the mb one, I really like how this is designed but the disk is plastic and makes a tap tap noise when u start writing as the disk comes in contact with the ipad. The one I use all the time is the dagi stylus, which is not plastic but a soft silicon disk on a spring.

Has anyone seen a review of the screenwriter? Whether this disk is a hard plastic ( I know they say it's silicon), the reason I ask is so I don't fork out that money if it's going to tap tap, be annoying and I won't use it.

My Note 4 should be in on Oct 17th and I can't wait for the availability of the e-StarWalker and Extreme case to complete the look. The e-StarWalker (my first StarWalker) will not be anywhere close in terms of looks to my WE and PoA collections and will be more of a curiosity. Have my orders in with my MB boutique.

Samsung's strategy will benefit them more than Montblanc as I can safely guess Montblanc owners have more disposal income to possibly convert over to the Samsung brand. It is unlikely that a Samsung owner would spend $$$ to buy relatively more expensive e-pens when the one that comes with the Note 4 will suffice.

On that note (pardon the pun), Montblanc see the writing on the wall (lol) to begin creating their presence in the electronic age (like the recent release of the StarWalker Extreme ScreenWriter) for owners of tablets and phablets.

I saw one of these Montblanc styluses here in Perth Western Australia in a shop and I've got a gut feeling it was a Starwalker version. Was selling for bit over $1600 and what a blatant rip off if you ask me, seriously.

There is an e refill for samsung offered. Is it also for apple devices available?

Do apple users have to buy a whole new pen?

(see my post above). Samsung Galaxy Note tablets & phablets incorporate 2 types of screen interface. One is capacitive touch that uses fingers (like other tablets running Android or iOS), the other is a Wacom type tablet. If you have seen a graphics tablet used with a computer you get the idea. This is the technology the S-Pen incorporates (you can also use Wacom pens with a Galaxy Note). I think extra functions are available with the S-Pen (eg for drawing and note taking) but I guess if you don't need these you can also use your finger. If you want a pen to use with an Apple phone or tablet, there are plenty of pens out there that have one of those squidgy/rubbery end pieces that emulate a finger.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
