Yes, when you see this which I still think is a very good deal. I was even considering it myself before the above appeared.

That's about $116, about what a lot of Carenes go for used. Not near as good a deal as yours, Mr Sumgai.

This sumgai was fairly easy.

The set had done one round on the bay, listed for 7 days with a BIN of £120. I watched it expecting someone to step in and buy them quickly but no, it ran for the 7 days. I must admit the pics were not very good but the description sounded honest. During the run I asked a question just to be sure all was well with the nib sizes and received an immediate reply. I still did not bid.

So they were relisted with a starting price of £50 (with reserve) and BIN of £100. Still nobody hit the BIN but the bids started and it reached about £60 until the last day. During the final 30 mins I put in a token bid just to make sure I was logged in (how many times have I done this only to be confronted with the login page) which took it to £65 in someone elses favour. So I raised my bid to £99.99 and waited until the last 3 seconds.....baaammmmmmmm.

You Have Won This Auction £75 :) even I could not believe noone else thought of going £90 or £95....the sections alone were worth it.

So when the auction ended the seller contacted me saying he would ship the following day and include some addition items not show ie all the cartridges :)

Just out of curiosity, do the new nibs on the carene's have a stamped waterman logo rather than a laser etched one. If so that is quite nice.

I cannot be 100% sure but the above Stub came in its original packaging (first pic, left box) which looks to be of recent modern supply.

Also the Contemporary Black (subject of another topic and which has now left me) had a stamped nib.

I have popped the above stub onto a dinked barrel together with my clipless cap to form a bitsa pen and I must ay the nib is really nice. Must take a few pics for the bitsa fans.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
