Can Now Get Gold Nibs For Lamy Safari/al-Star/etc. In Uk

If you want to install a gold nib in your Lamy Safari or al-Star or other 'standard' Lamy pen, it's been a difficult job to get the nib as a spare in the UK. It was even more frustrating as they seemed to be freely available in the US.

The gold nibs can now be bought as separate items from a UK supplier: The Pen Company; see http://www.thepencompany.com/product/lamy-gold-nib/9989/). I have no affiliation other than being a satisfied customer.

Cheers for that. Appreciated! I didn't even know you could buy them separately.

I've just looked on ebay and thankfully you can get them a lot cheaper than what they're asking for there (it's from China). £65 for a gold nib like that seems a bit...steep

I had no idea that gold nibs were available for the Lamy Safari/Al-Star/Vista. Where can they be obtained in the United States?

I actually don't think you can "freely" obtain the nibs in the US. Last time I talked to a service rep at Lamy USA (for repairing my Lamy 2000), I was told that I had to directly contact Lamy Germany for the gold Safari nibs.

I did, howver, get my hands on one from buying the 14k Lamy Studio

They are € 69 or circa £ 55 from La Couronne du Compte, so, as usual, a little more expensive in the UK but the right ball park. They ship internationally.

Waiting for more retailers to pick up this item and see the price go down a little.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
