Hello Jerry

I'm planning on being there! Only 1-1/2 away for me and Jen. It is a nice show as you stated! Stop by our booth and say hi to Jen and I!

See you there!

I'm so excited for this!!! Going to be my first pen show - going to take the Saturday off to attend :)

extending a warm welcome, as we always enjoy seeing our neighbors to the north and east.. (south and west too).

haven't been to my old neighborhood for awhile, but if they are still there, Breakaway Deli on Long Lake, just west of Livernois has stellar sandwiches at lunchtime.

not sure who might be repairing on site, but did have my roseglow expertly restored last year.

small by very nice show especially for a first show.

Hello all,

I am planning on coming along this year, it is the first year that I had heard about it.

Does anybody know if there will be someone there that can service pens on site?

I have a (I believe) 1962 Scheaffer Imperial III that I inherited from my granddad that needs a little work. It is a little too wet and the tines are visibly separated. I'll be going anyway as it is only around the corner from me.

It will be nice to meet you all :)

Yes my great friend Mike Krut will be there right alongside me. I'll be the handsome one with hair. Seriously Mike will be repairing pens and he is a real pro

Bring stuff to sell, trade and discuss

Thank you for the recommendation. I am looking forward to getting my grandads favourite pen back in full working order. Heads up, the clip is also in need of repair. Is there anything you would like me to do in preparation? I know the best thing is to give it a good soak, would you like me to prep anything to make your job easier? Or should I just turn up and let you take a look first?

Sorry for so many questions, I can take this offline to a PM if you like. I am just too excited and can't wait to get there :)

Please do stop by my table. I will likely be next to Mike Krut as I am staying with Mike and Faye

With nearly 5000 posts I should learn a lot from you. I am not even at 100 yet :-)

lol.. just advanced age I'm afraid... also pre-k when my mom gave me her Snorkle to play with since she'd moved on to a dove grey 51. Not sure she realized I was making bubbles in real ink... but I had good hand/eye coordination back then, and left no incriminating evidence ; )

will be delighted to visit.. the MI pen show has been small, but is always friendly, and a nice toe in the water for new ones.

I've never brought pens to sell.. do you think anyone might be interested in my Island LE Carene? It's been sitting unused after one use, since Old Griz Palmer'ed his name and said it was tuned perfectly, just too heavy for me. I know it would fetch a chunk on the bay, just not interested in all that entails.

You know I am focused on vintage stuff although I do have a few new ones or really post 1975 pens. The Carenes ar all over the map for price. Buyers there would be Mike Krut, Brian Anderson, maybe Mike Kirk and a couple of others as well. My cache is seriously depleted as Roger Cromwell gutted my stuff in Chicago. The biggest single sale I have ever made in more than 25 years of doing shows.

Look forward to seeing you.

BTW don't pull the age card on me. I'll bet a nickle I am older than you :)

Hmmm... the Holland find .. I've had three of those since last year's Michigan show. If you tell me which one you are referring to, I'll bump it up in the queue for an article at Leadhead's to show it off

is it possible that you don't know about this??? figured there was Lots of backchannel discussion.

Perhaps the negotiations to make it happen have been stalled, or unforeseen issues.

Hopefully it will resume as a fruitful project.

The OP did suggest there would be a period of akin to an apprenticeship to take on the project properly. That may be exactly where it's quietly moving.

I was in hopes that the find, as it was, would be photographed, and inventoried to ascertain if there were prototypes/pieces that needed to be conserved as is rather than included in the assemblies/refurbs with repro parts to complete. At times it's the plain parts pieces that are essential history, as you know : )

It was a thrill seeing sleeping history.. hope there will be a positive end of the story.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
