My First Estate Sale, And A Fifth Avenue Pen/pencil

I went to an estate sale today, my first one. Among a bunch of stuff, I managed to come away with a half can of Ronson (old naptha formula), an embroidery piece that might look nice as a backdrop when I photograph my pens, a wooden box that I can store pens in, and the attached goodie I got for 50 cents. From what I've been able to find, this is a Parker-made pen sold at Woolworths. It's dirty, but not too destroyed. I don't know if the pencil works, and the nib simply says "Welsh".

Yes, the Fifth Avenue brand was produced by Parker for sale at Woolworths. I believe they sold for 20 cents.

 

The Welsh nib might be a replacement since I think Welsh was a brand used by another company.

Curious sac. I wonder if this is original. The J bar is REALLY cheap. No wonder the pen sold for 20 cents.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
