I understand these suppose to fit the older push type. I am currently using a Schdmit converter but i have to cut off part of it to fit the barrel.

Sorry, got to re-ask... these 2 type of converter are interchangeable?

A is the Mont Blanc srew in converter. B looks to me like a Schmidt K5 which is a push fit. Both should be OK but if you use the Mont Blanc screw in make sure the threads are engaged before screwing fully home, if not you will have an ink leakage.

B is the older Montblanc push type. I have the Schmidt which I am currently using. The end barrel of the 144 is too narrow so I have to cut off some and it will fit. Nothing wrong with that, but if I can use original I like to be able to get one :)

I am just not sure if the thread one can be use on the 144.

I am not too sure how old my 144 is as I bought it second hand. Perhaps someone else can throw some light on this. It could be that only later 144s accept screw in converters?

Chances it might fit since they both accept international cartridges? Just not very sure that is all and hope someone have experience on that.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently had some trouble with my 144 (late 80's early 90's, made in W. Germany) and took it to an MB Boutique. Turns out that my converter was bad causing odd issues. When I asked the guy about just grabbing another one, he mentioned that my pen would need to get sent out to convert it from the push in to the screw in converters. I was surprised but decided to just refill cartridges with the syringe at home. Some of the other poster's comments seem to indicate its possible to use the screw in.

I have two 144's, both use the MB screw-in converters.

However, I bought them both second-hand and don't know how old they are.

My guess is between late 1990's and now.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
