Found A Lamy Safari Aquamarine Source

This year has been a big year for me, I've hit a birthday with a zero and I had a transplant operation.

Whilst I waited for the operation I couldn't do much and I started buying fountain pens as a way of keeping my mind off things.

Since my op I realised that I liked italic or stub nibs the most so I bought an Al Star in blue green thinking if I liked it I could then get different sized italic nibs. I loved it!

I now have a 'few' Al Star and Safari pens. I saw a picture of the safari in aquamarine and thought I would like one. I went on the internet and discovered that they are hard to find and expensive, amazon had one listed as unavailable at £119.99. I found one on ebay but after reading a thread about fake safari pens I wasn't sure. So I widened the search and found one on an Australian online pen store. I ordered it this morning and even with postage to the UK it works out only slightly more than the ebay pen - less than half the Amazon price.

If anyone is interested I ordered it from pensonline.com.au it is $58.95 with $23 shipping. They do PayPal.

Here is a pic of the 'few' a couple more are still on the way .

Well, Congrats on your operation. I hope that you are now in good health. And, you have chosen a good hobby to be involved in. Best of luck.

Thanks Wolverine1.

I get better every day just have to get signed off by the docs to go back to work. The free time is bad for trying not to buy more pens.

I've always loved fountain pens but now I'm and addict.

Hello Whiterose64,

And I believe your LAMY pens are stored in the cabinet drawer from Mr. Geoff Morris. Such a nice man ...

Enjoy you Safaris, and get well soon.

Kind regards,

Jan

Thank you Jan.

Yes I do have a display case from Mr Morris, he is very nice and helpful.

If I keep buying Lamy pens he'll be getting another order soon.

Just noticed the number of views.

Has anyone else bought one? Should I be asking pensonline.com for commission?

I missed out on the Lime Green Safari, but I did get one of the Aquamarines a couple of years ago. I hadn't noticed the price rise until now, though.

I also used to have one of the original (20 something years ago) Jungle Green Safaris. I paid $20 for that, and they are now going for $300+. Unfortunately, I have lost mine :crybaby:

Hi dcwaites

Shame you've lost the jungle green Safari.

I was amazed at the prices of the older limited and special editions of Safari fountain pens, and the Al Stars. I wasn't prepared to pay over £100 pounds for the aquamarine but £43 wasn't too bad and I really love the colour. Hopefully it will also be an investment.

I've missed out on the terracotta, jungle green, lime green special edition but I plan on getting each new SE and LE. I think I'm officially addicted.

Hello Whiterose64,

You'll be in my prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Congratulations on scoring an aquamarine variation for a more realistic price. :)

You've chosen a great avocation, (if you have self-control), and an excellent brand; if I do say so myself. ;)

Best regards,

Chris

PS: I like the look of a stub nib, too. Mate a Lamy 1.1 stub with Diamine Blue-Black on light ivory paper and it will send you back to yesteryear. :D

Thank you Lamyone for your good wishes.

The Aquamarine Safari arrived this morning, yeah. It's the last of the SE/LE editions I can find for the moment, or justify the cost of.

I'm aiming to stop now and wait to get the rest of standard colours slowly. The only problem is the Lamy rainbow is so lovely I want to add to it.

Hello Whiterose64,

Very nice indeed! :D

Let me ask you, does that Neon Yellow one hurt your eyes when you look at it? I've been holding back on getting one because even the pictures have stung my eyes a couple of times. :o (Makes me leery what it must be like in real life).

Best regards,

Chris

Hi Lamyone,

I too saw some pics of the neon yellow that were so bright I wasn't sure I wanted one either. Luckily I went into my local stationary shop and discovered they sell Lamy Safaris so I got a look at the Neon Yellow and Coral before I bought them.

You aren't going to loose the Neon Yellow but it isn't going to blind you - it isn't as bright as I expected, it's similar to yellow highlighter pens. I quite like the colour and I'm interested to see it next to the standard yellow.

Hi WhiteRose,

OK, great! I'm glad to hear this. I have the standard yellow already and it is a nice, canary yellow, one of those colors that cheer you up. :D The Pen Chalet, (here in the States), is selling the neon version for $22, so I may give them a try, haven't bought anything from them before, but for the price, I'll give them a go. Its nice to have a local pen shop; I'd have to drive into Pittsburgh, (about an hour away and terrible parking).

Thanks again,

Chris

PS: How are you feeling today? Better, I hope. :)

Hi Chris,

Oh dear, I've become an enabler!

That's a good price for the Safari though. I think you'll like the Neon Yellow, I think 'Summer' every time I look at it especially next to the Coral.

I live in a small town in the Yorkshire Dales (Herriot country) so I was surprised to find Lamy fountain pens in the local stationary shop. I'm about an hour from a couple of big cities with stores that specialise in fountain pens. I have googled to their addresses and as soon as I can pursuaded a friend to take me I'll be like a kid in a sweet shop. Unfortunately I had to sell my car as whilst I was waiting for my op I was told I couldn't drive and not working I couldn't afford to keep it. The problem with the local shop is it's in walking distance which is tempting.

I'm feeling quite good, thank you. I've got to the stage where I'm walking into town most days to get my stamina up, it's still a novelty and tiring.

Hi WR64,

Worry not - we are all enablers here. :D

I'm glad to hear you're making progress in your recovery - that's a God-send. :) I hope you'll be up and at 'em soon. Sorry to hear about your car, but at least you live in an area that you can walk about - that must be neat - here in the States, everything is spread out, (at least for most of us).

Best regards,

Chris

PS: BTW, you have a very nice collection there.

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't think I'd want the neon yellow Safari until I saw a photo of one in the Field Notes photo stream on Flickr. But I also want the Al-Star in ocean blue, and Safari in white. I got the aquamarine from an eBay seller in Japan. Those don't seem to photograph true to color, but Whiterose 64's photo seems to have the true color, so kudos.

I love those italic nibs also. They are great with inks that have good shading.

Glad you are recovering Whiterose64. Thank you for the photo.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
