These are Lucky 271 celluloid pens made by Wing Sung; if prices are agreeable I can't see why they should be avoided. They might need a bit of tweaking but as always, a flush before inking is necessary.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

I like the cheap Chinese pens as writers, but I don't ordinarily have an extreme reaction to them. However, in this case . . .

The squeeze converters they come with rattle a bit but all the 271s I have had, have written well.

Alright, so I've pulled the trigger on the Striped Wing Sung 271, as well as this 'Baton' of a pen.

And the waiting begins...

That looks like a 590. Mine has never written very well. I like the size and feel of the pen. It is quite large.

Yes the 590 is gigantic, what problems did you face with yours? Ink flow problems or scratchy nib?

Cheers,

Alan

Ink flow. I spread the times on the nib and eventually replaced it. I will have to address the feed next. But I have so many other pens, this one has been sitting. I wish you the best of luck with yours. I hope it is perfect out of the box. They are definitely a good size pen.

My Wing Sung 590 and 271 should be arriving these few days according to the tracking information.

And I saw this.... Why, Oh Why!

Hmm.

I have had a Yiren version of that pen (reviewed here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/222538-bookworm-675-yiren-601/ ). The barrel was the same, but the cap is different. The black paint in the filigree came off in a few days and I couldn't re-paint, then after 3 weeks the chrome on the filigree part started to peel too. All in all it was a horrible mess. If Hero have improved that aspect & put in an adequate cap, it should be good. Otherwise... I'd want someone else to try before I invest in one again.

Regards,

Richard.

Received mine, had ink flow problems initially.

I stripped it out, gave it a thorough flushing and widened the feed channels a tad with a pen knife.

Now it writes with a nice wet line and no flow problems anymore.

The nib size is rather big, wonder which nibs you are able to replace yours with.

I'll be the guinea pig and report back.

I have a Bookworm version of that pen. No problems so far and it was bought lonnnnnng ago.

I might just try my luck on these as it is really inexpensive.

@Sailor Kenshin: How is the finishing holding up after a lonnnnnnng time? :P Especially the chrome bits.

Cheers,

Alan

Is this a trick question? The answer is always 'yes'.

Yes! I realise that now!

Between browsing on my work and home computers, phone and tablets, I am saying yes too much! :yikes:

Cheers,

Alan

Oh. Funny I just got that exact same pen from milestone_hk. It arrived a couple of days ago. It's a good pen.

The barrel has a bit of transparency, which is always nice.

The Bookworm hasn't seen heavy use, but so far so good. And it's really pretty.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
