The Writing Equipment Show in London takes place on October 5th at the Holiday Inn in Coram Street, Bloomsbury, London.

The event is always very well supported with international pen sellers plus manufacturers of pens, stationery and equipment.

Doors open at 10.30 but see the WES website for additional information.

Bring cash, credit cards are generally not accepted.

Travel is very easy with Russel Square tube station nearby and major bus routes.

So............who is going?

I am going this year, all being well ... hope to see lots of FPNers :)

And I'll be there (but this must be some form of torture when I am not allowed to buy any pens having acquired a pen recently that was not planned, but too good an opportunity to miss).

I'm counting down the days!

This will be my first pen show :)

Got my first vintage pen couple of days ago, then the second one....lol...you know

Can anyone have a look at my Parker Duofold there?

If so, could you please PM me?

Many thanks, see you there :)

Hi Martin,

I'm no expert (yet), but it looks like Parker Duofold AF.

It doesn't have a button and sac has deteriorated completely...

Duofold AFs are superb pens. Built like the proverbial masonry outhouse.

A button may be difficult to find, but not impossible. Come and see us at the Show (tables 40 & 41) and I'll point you in the right direction for parts etc. A sac replacement is a job that every vintage pen collector should be able to do as it's quite straightforward. The only potentially tricky aspect of the Duofold AF is that it has a screw-on barrel (most sac-filled pens have a friction-fit barrel).

That is so true!

My first Duofold is burgundy one - paired it with Visconti Burgundy (ink that didn't flow well with Faber-Castell) and it's match made in heaven!!! It is the smoothest and wettest writer :)

So I bought second one to go with Palm Green ink-would love to play around with it, change a sac etc.

Will bring it with me on Sunday ;)

See you there!

I think that the bar is fitted from the top - through the button hole - after the sac is in place. Its not impossible that the button has dropped into the barrel, its a stiff pull to pull it out and easier for it to drop in.

Eric will be there to help, just his cup of tea.

Yes, good point. I have also found AF buttons can take a bit of effort to pull out compared with conventional brass ones but since the button isn't there it's a non-issue!

Maybe, especially if the pressure bar has deteriorated. We'll have to wait and see when Mishka5050 arrives with the pen :).

Hoping to be there ..... Have over splurged in recent weeks though so my budget is limited. Not very good at resisting temptation though!

And just a thought - the title of this thread doesn't make it clear that this is the London pen show, happening in two weeks time. Might drum up more interest if it were clearer???

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I created the original post as a carry over from other LWES show notifications but I am not sure that I can alter the heading.

Mods - Please feel free to amend the heading if you feel that a descriptive title is more appropriate. Perhaps LWES 2014 - London Pen Show.

I am pretty sure "The London Pen show" was the name some years ago, but now LWES is the right title... and quite clear to me

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
