Help Me Identify, Pleaaaaaseeee....

I have this Waterman "Taperite" this lever filler with chrome trim comes with a matching pencil. I need to find someone with a new nib unit, I purchased one awhile back, but to my disappointment the replacement was too wide, this pen is more slender, but has the hooded nib. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Uncle Red - the pen is USA made.....has a large star on the cap too. Really a nice solid pen, and pencil. The nib is firm.

A star on the cap suggests a Corinth or a Stateleigh; gold-filled cap for the latter, "Astralite" steel for the former. The decoration looks more like the Stateleigh in my catalogue, but that clip doesn't seem right for Waterman in general.

Ernst - I am confused by the pen I expected a Watermans signed clip. I had the box, however my dog as a puppy destroyed the box and insert a couple of years ago. That is a painful story for another time..

Thank you!

I just realized-- threads on the barrel! As far as I know, the models I mentioned were only ever slip-cap models. It begins to wander into the realm of "Another of those vexing Watermans no one knows the name for."

Does the cap indeed have the Waterman name on it anywhere?

Sometimes I want to haul Waterman USA out of its grave and slap its de-fleshed face. Moving from slip-cap to threaded on the Crusader? Loonies!

Notice, though, that the clips are just as we all expect them to be. This element is really bugging me, and I start to wonder if this isn't something put out by Bic during the brief time they were keeping the aformentioned corpse up and walking around in the latter part of the '50s. The clip isn't quite the same as on this C/C (or, as it was known in the Bic period, the #298), but there are resonances in the shape of it:

I think our mystery guest is not a Leader; they didn't come with Taperite sections, and the cap decor is rather different:

When I get back from the mountains I will post detailed pictures of the pen and pencil, if I am not mistaken the pen and pencil do have Waterman signature on the cap.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
