Ink Holder

Recommended Posts

I don't have a lot of ink but I like to get the most out of each bottle I have had my eye on an ink stand sine I read a post about one with an angled base to help get the ink out.

The original was made from wood and was very expensive so I decided to make one in leather I started with a flat piece of leather which I wet and formed round a roll of masking tape.

As you can see I have attached the base with glue for the moment as this is a prototype it is a little on the large size but I have made it from scraps.

Rather than putting an angled piece inside it has been suggested that a bean bag would be appropriate so I have ordered filling to make some leather or suede bean bags.

Sorry if you are sick of my projects but thanks for looking

Michael

This is interesting !

Filling?

That's clever !

I never thought about that .

Now you got me thinking ....

I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

I wonder whether it'll work , if you invert the whole thing?

Large base , smaller top.

The ink bottle sits inside the aperture at the top, nested in a mini 'bean-bag ' inside ...

Impossible to topple over !

TMLee the pictures must be giving the wrong perspective the large part is on the bottom it is 55 mm high and 110 mm in diameter definitely not going to topple over

I have to be honest here I used an off cut of scrap which happened to be 80 mm wide and looked right and cut it to fit around a roll of masking tape so there was no real design involved.

Kosmic-cowgirl I could have tooled the outside if I had thought of that before I glued it all together, I should have marked out and punched the stitching holes.

I think it is too large for my needs so I may stop now and make a smaller one

Thanks

Nothing you do is ever boring. :-)

Great idea. Holding a bottle to get the last bit of ink out is always difficult. Your holder could make it simple.

Very smart!

Ah ... I see !

I wonder what filling material you are ordering ?

I am curious what those neck pillows are filled with? You know, those that can be kneaded into any shape , those you can find in airport travel stores...

Hi TMLee

The filling material is 2 mm polystyrene balls indeed the sort of thing used to fill neck pillows and bean bags sold I am told.

I think there will be some trial and error involved to get the quantity correct unless anyone can help with that.

Big enough for two small bottles, even! Beautiful work and efficient design as always - looser or fuller cushions could even be swapped out to accommodate to different height bottles, or different arrangements: one big; two small; or a medium which might need to sit a little higher than the others. Please continue to share your projects!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
