Nightshade - Noodler's

Noodler's inks aren't easily obtainable in Europe. That's a pity because I find many of them interesting and quite unique. Nightshade is one of these cool colors - it's hard to say what color it is? It has some accents of colors I really like: brown, purple and red.

Visamitra is back in da house....

Nightshade or solanaceae are a family of plants..... Aubergine is one of them so this may explain what the colour is....

Are the shipping costs from the USA to Europe very horrible...

Thanks for the nice review

Great review! Your splatters rule. I'm a big fan of this ink and I use it daily. It looks different out of different pens, which is interesting. I gave a sample from my bottle to a friend and it looks nearly black out of his (apparently wet) Hero 616. Also, different papers highlight the purple in the ink or make it look more brown. My snail in my current avatar has a Nightshade body :)

Oh no! :wallbash: Yet another ink to get a sample of! I thought I was happy with Purple Heart (which is a Goulet Pens exclusive). But when I was trying to find a dark purply color to match what was in a gel pen that was used for some mail I got, I must have overlooked this one.

My "to order" list just gets longer and longer. Don't suppose it's got any sheen to it....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Purple Heart and Nightshade are verryyyyyy close, if that's any consolation, but Purple Heart is definitely "cooler" while Nightshade is noticeably more brown/red. I have a page at work I used both inks on and can post my comparison later.

Oh, how I love this one. Truly unique. Possibly my favorite Noodler's, especially as a regular writer (vs. Habanero, which I consider to be an accent color). Thinking about moving up a Lamy nib size on next refill, to open up the color a bit more.

Great review.

I know what you mean about the shade! I just say it's Night shade.

I'll be bringing this ink out in my next rotation. I've got enough pens inked at the moment.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
