Best Pen Show Ever!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have only been going to pen shows for 23 years. Been to over 50 pens shows, so maybe BEST SHOW EVER, may not be a hundred percent accurate, but it was the BEST SHOW I have been too.

If you were not in SF this weekend, ask someone who was!

Ha! Not sure if the best but damned good--maybe just pent-up demand since shows were lean or non-existent during the recession. Sorry, no pics here. I saw pens I've never seen before--and I've collected for 40 years! Very cool. I spent way too much money this year.

SECOND THE MOTION! SF PEN SHOW WAS THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD AT A PEN SHOW, PERIOD!

Everyone received the royal treatment by the hosts/promotors of the pen show. We were also treated to a full breakfast on Sunday in such a deluxe fashion, plus entertainment with a band on Friday night which included drink coupons, 4 drink coupons! Thursday evening we had a welcome wine/cheese event, and even Saturday morning was a continental breakfast!

Thank you Syd, Todd, and Ricki for making the San Francisco Pen Show the best with the amenities, the wonderful hotel, the location, the low stress everyone felt by your excellent/welcoming demeanors but also the excellent crowds that showed up to buy and trade/talk pens! Definitely a "techie" crowd with Silicon Valley and computer people coming!

Go to my website www.gregminuskin.com and see the pictures of the show, the food, and the fun!

Thank you and I will be back next year 100%!

I missed all the extra-curricular activities, only making the Sunday show. But, wow! Great pens and people as always. SO fun.

Well, I did end up getting some of this, from a friend who was also selling...

... but that was just part of the weekend. I totally agree, this one is off the hook. Which is why I wrote about it in another thread. Here's to next year!

I wound up with one of those too, Jon. I have to decide; write with it, or hoard it...

Use it.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

It was my first and it was amazing. Everyone was so friendly. I didn't expect rude dudes, but the level of friendliness was amazing. It was less like a sales trade show and more like a gathering of club members wanting to educate. I was only there for a couple hours but based on the nightly events, location and earth quake I imagine things were pretty entertaining.

I have so many new inks to try! Nothing like some folks here, but way more than I need.

Oh my. I see we are going to have to send you to the "back room" for some discipline. It never was, and never will be, about need!

Did you miss my lament in another thread that I hadn't gotten more? :) I think I've figured that part out.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
