I'm not sure it's possible to have too many bottles of ink.

I think if you have at least one bottle of each of all the Sailor inks (including all the special shop versions as documented by Algester), then you probably have just enough ink.

If you have one of each of all inks, except for pink, then you have just enough ink.

Of course, I am very far from this exalted level, so there are many more inks to buy...

When you buy back up bottles of inks to stock up -- just in case the color is discontinued -- even though you've only used it for one fill.

When you justify having nearly identical colors by pointing out the subtle differences between them.

You can't think of any more colors to buy except for pink.

Has this happened to you?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I agree. I'm far from this level. Though I have acquired 3 Bung Box inks and sampled a Kingdom Note's ink.

Look, 'blue-green' is a very complicated concept, you can't possibly own just one ink in that range and claim that you've covered it.

Then of course there's the 'green-blues'.

Trick question. There's still so many bottles on my wishlist, and even more samples yet to try.

So many inks, so little time...

And of course we haven't *begun* to discuss 'teal'....

My rule is that I have too many when they outgrow their shoebox.

Oops, I'm there! I had to start a second shoebox this summer. I need to focus on using up the ones I know I won't replace rather than buy new ones.

This is what I noticed. Why isn't there a teal FP ink?

... you buy something you already had, but forgot. If you had already opened the first bottle and tried it... then you are getting old as well.

You find inks you don't remember purchasing and have multiple duplicates.

I'm not there yet (emphasis on yet).

I went online the other day and couldn't think of an ink to buy - so I bought my kids school supplies, which they insisted that that they needed more than I needed ink. I'm not saying I have "too" much ink because as of yesterday, I was thinking ... oh, I like that ink....and oh, why don't I own Diamine Bilberry?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
