Nightmares That Come Real..

:gaah:

Soooooo was writing to me hearts delight when I split my tea over on my paper. Thankfully it was almost empty but some did manage to get on the paper and smeared quite a bit but all underneath is still readable. Made me wonder if anyone else had a similar experience or do you all have your own nightmare that came true?

Wash the rest of it off, leave the tea in, now you have toned paper to write on.

Spillage isn't really a nightmare to me. Handing my pen to someone and having it burp or leak all over their clothes or furniture is a nightmare. :P

Just yesterday, I spilled a glass of water on my journal, I ruined several pages and the water then flowed onto several books. At that moment I wondered why I don't force myself to stick with water resistant inks? Such is life.

I usually don't write in the rain and don't normally anticipate spillage (who does...), so it depends on the purpose of the writing. But I lean towards using using water resistant or water proof inks. I've not yet had a mishap that warranted the decision, but it's handy to know if the document does get wet it will still be legible.

I do feel that waterproof inks make more sense for thoughts that you would rather not lose. I have a couple of water resistant inks and will likely purchase more going forward. When I first became interested in pens and ink I based my ink selection on shade rather than practicality.

Thankfully this text wasn't wiped clear off - I can still make the words out and it is only a small area. But I may now have to think for future writing projects on different inks. Then again, I like switching colors and pen with different characters and settings.. guess I will only be able to spill water on certain pages :D

Not a nightmare perhaps, unless I were working on something that I definitely wanted to save. Still, you never know what you may want later, and it's the nature of accidents to be unexpected.

I've stuck pretty much to water resistant inks since I put my hand on a journal page, not realizing that I hadn't dried it enough after washing. The entire page smeared; most of it was illegible. I don't think there was anything important there, but it's gone now. I can't really think of much reason for using a non-water resistant ink. I'll accept the (very rare) ink stain on my clothes as a price for not losing an inspiration. It doesn't help to have the perfect shade of blue or brown if it won't hold up to a little water.

I spilled Cola on my Cola ink. The DeAtramentis Cola ink washed off but but the ink and the Cola made my ink smell good.

I've spilled OJ on my Platinum Carbon Black.... Nothing happened. I had to rewrite the paper though.

Yo Dawg, I heard you like Cola, so I put some Cola on your Cola...

Is Cola the actual name of the ink? I'm curious to see what that looks like.

... I pictured it as more of a brown.

This is the ink:

You can get it from GPC.

Now if you think that is a weird ink look at these:

So far I noticed from DA inks are they wash off easily. But I didn't like cola that much to have that happen.

Okay this is how Cola ink looks like:

It's not too bad, but I would prefer Diamine Syrah to that (I prefer dark). But Syrah stains like a mutha----, but it least it doesn't look like I fisted a smurf if you were to spill some bay state blue on your hands.

IF you ever notice that the ink is not water resistant (or that it is) and it's listed on their site as "unknown", I'd shoot them an email so they can update it.

See I'm usually careful with the drink near the writing paper. I always thought my concern should be with the pen and protecting that nib unit. Glad it was just a few drops versus a whole cup.

Not a spillage nightmare, but a nightmare come true last night nonetheless. I have an Edison I have had inked continuously for a year. I was about to clean it and retire it for awhile after finishing the cartridge currently in it. I was finishing up the last pen pal letter when the pen rolled off my writing desk and fell into a box of papers. When I picked it up i realized the body had snapped off irregularly around the threads.

I am heartbroken.

I already have an email out to Brian about it.

I've had my fair share of bad moments.

The legendary one is probably when my pen just decided to burp a huge drop of BSB onto a white down comforter... I was just taking notes while watching a program on TV, relaxing before going to sleep. Watched in horror as the drop just missed my note pad and landed on the comforter. A very painful oops...

Sorry to hear that Sharon. :( Hope it can be repaired without to much trouble.

No, not really a tall fall. It fell a foot or two, into the box. It may have hit to edge of the lap desk going down, but it all happened so fast that I am not sure whether it actually it the edge.

Thanks. Brian seems hopeful that he can repair it for me. It went out in today's mail, so he will likely have it by Friday.

Towards the end of college, I managed to drop my beloved chrome Targa. It went straight down, like a tiny spear, in slow motion... OK, it just seemed like slow motion, due to the HORROR.

Landed smack on the nib and broke one of the tines. That pen and I went through a LOT together, and all I could do was retire it.

Decades later, someone invented the internet, and I was able to get a replacement nib. OMG. It's like a reunion with an old friend!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
