Buying Pens On Ebay

Islander

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to the Fountain Pen Network but a long time user of fountain pens. I recently got interested in collecting fountain pens and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a few reputable Chinese sellers on ebay that ship internationally with no or few exceptions?

I purchase pens from Chinese sellers on Ebay on a regular basis for years I have only had a problem with one out of dozens -- so your odds are good

I bought a number from hq.market, he's shipping leaves much to be desired for (slow till hell freezes over, most China sellers are), but he's responsive and always try work out any problems.

milestone_hk has a bunch of Hero pens. I've ordered from them before and the shipping was **free** and only about a week to Western Canada from Hon Kong. Looks like they ship worldwide. I got a really interesting pen from them once and messaged a few weeks later to ask some questions about it and they replied with everything they knew about it (weird NOS thing from the 80s or 90s), which was cool.

I have made a couple of dozen purchases of Chinese-made fountain pens on Ebay -- the inexpensive ones.

I generally get a good picture using the "feedback" information. In general, service is prompt, shipping is reasonable,

quality control is inconsistent, communication in English can be challenging. Economy shipping of China Post has been

reliable, though time to the US is two to eight weeks. (The large parcel containers are held until full.)

Which pens are you considering ?

I have purchased pens from jewelrymathematics with no problems. Speerbob is an excellent seller who occasionally sells Chinese Pens. He's also the go-to seller for NOS Pilots so don't hesitate to buy from him if you are ever in the market for one.

I have purchased from comeone1788 and hq_market and both times were great! Last transaction, won auction from hg_market on Aug. 6, had the pen in hand on Aug. 16!

So, what's your point?

(Mine is a flexible F.)

I am actually considering a few sellers mentioned already along with "jojoandyou." At the moment I am considering the Hero 767

I don't really dig chinese FPs, for the reason that they have little history. I am a big aficionado of story telling for whatever tags along with me. However, engeika is good for Pilot and a lot of other Japanese brands.

Truly a delight to deal with and must-go-to if you are considering sailor, pilot and any other reputed Japanese brand.

I had good luck with the following sellers (I've bought more than once from almost all of them)

My criteria that served me well so far is to only consider sellers with a 99+ rating.

Just make sure you are well aware of shipping times and allow 2+ weeks for delivery. If you want something sooner, check isellpens.com, he carries a lot of the popular Chinese pens (I got my Kaigelu 316 there and it was actually slightly cheaper -- not to mention faster -- than ebay)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
