Need A Pif Suggestions On Pens

Recommended Posts

I am wanting to do a pif of a quality pen, bottle of ink, and a Rhodia pad. I want it to be around 100.00 and was thinking a Sailor procolor 500 and bottle of sailor ink. I could use some.suggestions on what other pens to look at for this. I will not consider a Twsbi or any chineese pen so please dont mention them. Basically pen value should be 50 to 70 as the bottle of ink and paper will be 30

TWSBI is Taiwanese not Chinese.

I think you should consider TWSBI because their pens are a great value at their price point.

But if you really don't want to choose TWSBI, I think the Sailor is a good pen too.

Never said Twsbi is a Chinese pen as I know it is Taiwanese company. I said I do not want twsbi or Chinese recommendation. I dont care for Twsbi pens personally and wont give someone something that I dont care for or believe in.

If it is for me, I'd like an Esterbrook J with a 9550 nib. A restored one should come in well under your budgeted amount. Now in the remote chance it is for someone else, you might want to avoid the Esterbrooks because they will get use to using an excellent, quality fountain pen and not want to try other brands. However, if it really is for me, then, by all means, go with the Esterbrook J because I am already spoiled.

Oh, and thank you very much! That's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me!

It will be for a newcommer or beginner to fountain pens. So yes it should be a quality pen that I can stand behind. I think I have it anyhow. I picked up a Taccia nightlife. Msrp is around 200 and it is a quality pen. Just need to pick up a rhodia pad and some ink and I am set for the pif.

Awww . . . I'll try to hide my disappointment. Seriously, that is a genuinely nice thing that you are doing. I hope the lucky individual appreciates what you are doing for him or her. Well done and good on you!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
