Help Identify A Waterman Pen Set

Recommended Posts

I bought this Waterman pen set at a local flea market for $28. The set includes a fountain pen and a retractable ballpoint. The FP works great and the ball point is great for school. Can anyone identify what set it is/if I overpaid?

Coincidentally, I got another pen that appears to be the same kind that same day. As you can see, this pen bent after being exposed to the hot sun for several hours (don't worry... the guy gave the damaged pen to me for free). Does anyone have any ideas on how to un-bend such a pen?

Could it be an Agora set? I found this online, and this looks pretty similar (except for the pattern on the pens): http://www.prices4antiques.com/Fountain-Pen-Pen-Set-Waterman-Agora-Series-Green-Beige-B117423.html

If it is a forum set, could someone post either a link or a picture of what a forum set looks like so I can compare?

Oh, and does anyone have any ideas on how to repair the bent pen? The guy who gave it to me said that I could probably leave it out in the sun until it gets soft and try to bend it back into place. I'm not sure if that's the best strategy though.

Thanks for all your help.

Heating and putting back in shape is essentially right. You'd want a rod or dowel that fits snugly to the interior (of the non-bendy one) to act as a guide and support, and I believe rolling back to straight is a better approach than just grabbing the ends and tugging.

Forum is the word in Latin for Agora in Greek for a public gathering place. Atrium a Latin word for a private gathering place..... :)

In fact, there are "sub-categories" for the Forum
- Forum (simple in plastic)
- Forum Atrium (steel)
- Forum Agora (fancy) like yours theodore94
- Forum French Revolution
- …??

I learn a lot with you. Thank you

Do you know if the Forum Agora has a solid 14k nib? The guy who sold it to me said that it did, but I can't find any marking. I'm beginning to think it's either steel or gold-plated.

For me, but I could be wrong, the nibs for the Forum are steel nibs (often gilded) or gold-plated but not in gold (neither 14K or 18K). The Forum without be "supermarkets" FP, were not FP of luxuries.

Have a nice weekend!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
