Buying Notebooks Before Finishing Older One!

I'm curious: of those who use a notebook for any sort of a daily journal, do you wait to buy the next one until you are finished or almost finished with the older one? Or do you stock up ahead of time?

Rofl....'one at a time!'.....what is this 'finish old before buying new' of which you speak?

My Home Office has at least 100 or more A-6 predominately and A5 notebooks, virgo intacta. The Engineering Field Level Books I buy in lots of a dozen they are about 4" x 6" in size. Finish one notebook and pull another out. Daughter is home from Germany, wandered in yesterday to find a couple of notebooks for her Tutoring sessions in Germany. She chose 3-4 of the Plain Croc book by Clairefontaine, 6.5" x 8.5" . I'm the Block Office supply store for notebooks. I buy notebooks every opportunity that comes around.

1 is none, 2 is one in my world.

I usually wait! For some reason I don't want to have a tone of empties lying around, or, apparently, even one. When I reach the end of a notebook I very much look forward to going and getting a new one and starting it.

I had one I really liked that they discontinued, so I had to find a new favorite Journal. After that I started stocking up when I found something I liked.

I live in a small island. Things are tried and if there's not enough interest, they disappear again. Notebooks, fountain pens, and fountain pen ink are among such items that when you see them, you pounce. If they're any good, go back and stock up. A good thing, too. You could find a nice, not too expensive notebook by Peter Pauper Press, but the store has remaindered them and they're now gone. I expect the Paperblanks to go the same route shortly, but since those are pretty expensive I'm not getting quite as many... And so it goes.

I lust after many notebooks but I am trying to hold myself to none in until needed. This is going to be a big challenge. I just started journaling so I am making sure that I stick with it (this also helps me justify future purchases). I just wish I hadn't started with a 200+ page first journal.

I have so many notebooks it's a bit out of control. I finally finished my first Field Notes last month and I have had their Colors subscription for well over a year. I seem to go through notepads and large cheap Rhodia notebooks that I use for doodling and random writing quickly. The ones I buy out of curiosity take a long time to finish because I find it difficult to find a purpose for them especially if it's a new format.

What did you end up choosing?

I have about 10 remaining comp & notebooks from my 2013 back to school purchase, and I just bought 30 more notebooks.

40 notebooks should keep me in paper for the next 3 years.

When I was writing heavier, I would average about 3 weeks to finish a notebook.

Once the SF Pen Show is done, I hope to get back to that rate again.

I have poor impulse control when it comes to notebooks. Aside from my stack of new/unused notebooks, I have four currently in use.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

One? Only one? How awful! Part of the fun as I near the end of a notebook, is perusing my stock and thinking about which one I'd like to use next. This takes a few days. Then selecting the one I want, changing my mind, choosing another one and starting it. This can only be done in the quiet and solitude of my home office.

I must also admit to a great deal of confusion, why would you _NOT_ have multiple notebooks. I really am taken aback by this foolish notion. Next you will be saying we can have only enough in on hand to last a year or two...

Lots and lots of them and never finish each. I have several notebooks started at the same time. Really like to use different papers and textures at different times of the day. I usually start each as a journal and then start doodling and sketching or viceversa. And there are a whole mess of subjects in them and not one finish dot the last page.

I looked in my cupboard and stopped counting at 150 different notebooks and pads. Reckon I am ok for while. I have about 12 of the old version Habanas before they changed them and destroyed the best ever notebook. But now I am too scared to use them because one day I will run out. So I look at them every day and think how lucky I am to have them. If anyone can refer me to a Pen & Paper specialist psychologist please pass on the contact details.
