Split My Targa Nib

Albinoni

Recommended Posts

Today at work I accidentally dropped my beautiful tortoise shell larger size fountain pen and split the 14k nib. This pen is absolutely beautiful and I bought it off ebay a while back and is in mint condition. But unfortunately I can't use it now because of this mishap.

Some help needed here please on where can I buy another nib fron, preferably a 14k gold nib in a medium.

Also is it possible to repair the nib or not really worth it.

Thanks

Teri at Peyton Street Pens has steel sections. She may have a 14K section that you can screw right in and get back to business. You might take a look at her site and/or send her a message. Good luck, I hope it turns out as well as it can. I am sorry to hear of your accident.

You can get a 14k section for your Targa from Sheaffertarga.com That site is managed by Gary Ellison in Sheffield, England, a premier Targa collector and most knowledgeable about all aspects of the Targa. Good luck!

I purchased a new old stock Targa from Anderson Pens with a 14K nib for $70 US. I found it on the web site. I suspect if you told Brian what you needed in a simple email he could find you one. Lisa and Brian set it aside and drove it to the SuperShow so I could save shipping to Canada. They are good people.

As an aside the Broad nib lays down a super wet line and is quite simply my signature pen....move over MB and Pelikan.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

So long as the metal itself isn't broken, just the tines that have split apart, it is possible to repair it. If you do get a new nibsection, the ruined one can be nice to practice with. :)

I have coaxed a few nibs back to working order and I am definitely no expert, but it's turned pens that were unusable into great writers.

You have to be careful of course, but it's only metal after all.

Sheaffer Repair in Ft. Madison still has some Targa sections in 14K, you could call and see what sizes they have.

I got a broad oblique for my Targa from them last year. They have more steel nibs than gold, but its definitely worth a try. I'm sure they'd ship to you!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
