There are a number of inks that when they are wet I think "OMG! that's going to shade so awesome!" and then they dry to something normal (ie not shady). It still looks nice, but definitely not shady.

FYI--cool-japan has reduced the price of the complete Kobe ink collection from $999.99 to $899.99 on eBay.

Has anyone put a picture of Kingdom Note's Entoloma Virescens up anywhere? If it helps I can probably get a picture of it up, albeit in slightly poor handwriting. I like the shade of blue - looks kind of like a smurf.

Update,

The bottled ink sent to Canada and the US arrived at their destinations without hitch. I also received ink from the US within the last week without difficulties.

However, yesterday I sent ink samples to both the US and Canada from the same PO that accepted bottled ink just two weeks ago without any extra checking. Yesterday was different. They told me that they would have to check to see if the destination countries allowed shipments of ink to enter the country. I told the clerk that I had just mailed bottled ink to two of the same addresses two weeks ago. They said that it should be OK then and accepted the boxes. The difficulty I had at the Kawagoe PO has spread to other locations now.

Does this mean that WRE and cool-japan will be having difficulty shipping ink to US or is this only for individual shipping?

Don't know. I have experienced similar with postal money orders. Used to be easy and quick. Then one day I went to another PO and ran in to all sorts of difficulties. Thought at the time that the 'new' PO didn't know what they were doing. A short time later my usual PO gave me the same problems the new one did. The problems had been growing and growing at all POs since until recently.

Seems like maybe the same thing here. But I really don't know. That was the main reason I posted this question on this thread, to see if others have run into this. Some have reported orders cancelled but I don't know if this is related in any way.

I had problems two days ago at a PO I sent from two weeks ago with out any problems.

Maybe it is an issue of myself not being a commercial interest and not having a newly suggested license to ship liquids, I don't know.

I've asked why the policy has been changed and they tell me it hasn't. I tell them that I just mailed from this same PO and they tell me it shouldn't be a problem then. I ask why they are all of a sudden asking for extra information and documentation and making phone calls and they tell me that they always do.

They haven't been but I press no further.

Now that Bung-Box Dandyism (and several other colors) appear to be unavailable, what does the group think of Kobe #1 (Rokko Green) as a substitute?

Saskia has this amazing comparison between Rokko Green, Racing Green and ... Dandyism (I think)... The three inks are amazingly close. :puddle: :puddle: She will tell you that Dandyism is the closest to Racing Green. I will tell you that the difference in hue is negligible (easily achieved by the right paper and nib) . Rokko Green at $20 shipped from Atsou is definitely more appealing to me than Dandyism. :P

Saskia, do you have a link to this comparison? Thanks!

I've updated my link to include the SankoDo inks. :)

Here are the ones I'm planning to get over the next few months. Of course, first I have to check if they are made by Sailor.

Wonderful! This one looks like it has nice shading; have you figured out if it is a Sailor?

The Onago Iro About to Leave and the SankoDo Nishikisan Black Purple arrived while I was visiting my parents for Thanksgiving so I was finally able to test them today and of course I am in love with both :happycloud9: About to Leave is exactly the kind of high sheening sky blue color that I was hoping for and Nishikisan Black Purple is also the exact purple I was looking for -- a blackish purple that still proudly announces its purpleness.

I wanted to say again a BIG thank you to :notworthy1: Saskia for posting writing samples and feedback on your Sailor inks because I have loved all the inks that you recommended and I normally need to go through at least 10 samples per color group to find something I like, so THANK YOU so much!

Attached are some quick photos taken under my kitchen spotlights because outdoor lighting wasn't great by the time I got back from class. Please note that my pens are wet and flexy so they make it easier to get the ink to pool and sheen. Also, unlike with About to Leave which cannot help but sheen, I really had to angle the page just right and place it under the spotlight for Black Purple’s sheen to pop in the photo. It's there, but looks more subtle unless you force it to come out haha

That is absolutely gorgeous; where did you purchase it?

This is one of the best ink threads ever; just as you discover a new Sailor, another pops up :bunny01:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
