I had never looked at the prices Atsu charges for Kobe, just figured he would mark them up like the other Sailor inks. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know if the Kingdom Note inks are available for a limited time only in celebration of the store's 5th anniversary or are going to be around permanently? I fell in love with Tanna Japonensis this week  , so I wasn't sure if I should order back up bottles or wait since my ink fund is a little low. I checked with Atsu and he said he doesn't think they are limited editions but I wanted to check if anyone's heard anything for sure. Thank you for your help!

They are NOT limited edition. However, they had only 50 bottles of each color made. They may or may not have more made when they run out. This was told to me by the manager two years or so ago when the first set came out. None are out of stock, so either they are not selling, unlikly as the decided to add two more sets of five colors, or they have resupplied.

I'd say that they are like every other non LE item. As long as it is selling and can continue to be produced at nearly the same cost and not regulated out of production, it'll be around for a while.

But, as big name ink producers, including Sailor, are often discontinuing even very popular colors, that must also be taken into consideration.

Thank you for your detailed response Tinjapan! This is very helpful. I will order one back up bottle just to be safe, but I really hope that the Kingdom Note inks do well and are kept in production! (Or at least a couple of them including TJ for me :P) Out of the 9 Sailors I ordered last month, the KN TJ and the BB Dandyism are my two favorites and they are both hands down in my top 10 favorite ink colors ever.

For the inks from Bung Box that have to be purchased in 12 packs, are there any others in the US interested in a group buy?

I'm not in the US, but if it could arrive at a US address in July, August or September, I would be interested. I'm sad I missed out on Sweet Potato Purple too. I didn't like it when I first saw it in a writing sample, but the second one I saw showed up how lovely it is. I don't think I can get any until next September

As a head's up, the Akashi inks are not made by sailor. I had WRE ask them, and they said, "The inks you sent us the link for are not made by Sailor, but by the manufacturer Akashi. The ink series has been released in 2007 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the stationery producer."

Also, who wants to see the SankoDo inks? :D Sadly, it's only moderately sunny today, so you don't get quite the full effect.

Speaking of Sankodo, I got 2 inks. With them came this little sheet of paper with scratches of ink next to their names... in Japanese of course. If anyone is keen on seeing it, I'll try taking photos when the sun comes out!

Yes, Dandyism is very nice. Sadly, it too is sold out. I stopped by KN last Wednesday and asked about their inks. None are sold out.

I have been hunting for the web site to order some Kobe inks, and can't come up with it. Any suggestions? I want to order directly from the company/store that sells them, not go through cooljapan on eBay.

I've had some good luck w/From Japan a shopping proxy site for ordering items from stores who reject overseas orders. You need a account and they will offer a quote for the items and there are number of shipping options too.

I wanted Sweet Potato, too. Ah well. It'll give me time to save up for a decent amount. (Indecent?)

It looks like we are 'in the same boat' Sweet Potato Purple less. :crybaby:

I definitely want one please.

I can have it shipped to the UK or hopefully give you the address of someone to ship it to in the US who can send it on to me or keep it until I visit FL next summer

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
