It would be a tough choice between the Hakumin version and the solid gold Presidential model.

In reality, I will probably just have to stick with my black and burgundy pens with rolled gold caps. They are nice pens.

I have my dream 51 already (Plum Demi, with what I think is a medium nib). Although at some point I'd like to get a Midnight Blue one.

I must say that Hakumin pen is really attractive though. But yeah, not remotely affordable (that's two months' worth of car payments :().

Nothing too fancy: a double jewelled 51 in any colour other than beige, mustard, or cordovan.

I think I have mine. The '53 teal Parker 51 I have writes incredibly smooth. If I'm not careful, the pen takes over. It's a little bit too broad for me, but truly an incredible pen.

I am a man with simple tastes.

I'd like a nice clean 1st year, Cedar Blue please, clean Lustraloy cap, clean Malumnum jewels thank you, nice clean imprints, Oh, and toss in a schweet Masuyama Rounded C.I. in it while we're there.

Probably the Only Vac 51 I Really Want.

Or, if I won the lottery, the above in Raspberry instead of Cedar Blue.

Probably easier to find with a gold or silver cap. When you find it, I'll trade you for a Lusterloy cap and swap the jewel out for you.

Bruce in Ocala,

Bruce I have a third quarter 1946 Cedar Blue Vac with a Lustraloy cap with jewelers band (stacked coins) and a Rhodium clib, It even has ALL the gold in the clutch ring. It has a medium gold nib. Imprints are pristeen. I love it.

My dream 51 remains a Buckskin Beige double jeweled Vac.

Yep that MM nib is nice!. So is the pen for that matter. Maybe I'll have Pendleton work on mine someday. But I will probably wait to look for a broad nib (I know good luck). He did one for me on that cocoa demi but a broader nib will give me more variation, which I like. I changed my post as I forgot to put the year. It's a 1946.

Faux Penman Sapphire Blue ink? Faux Penman? Would that be on a par with Ersatz Pelikan BlueBlack?

Most of us that were here three years or so ago, who wanted PPS, loaded up on The Great Fleabay PPS Motherlode cartridge deal. (A guy had a few Thousand carts. You could get enough carts to make a bottle of PPS for around $12 or so, a STEAL then and now.)

Before that happened, FPNer DCWaites had started his quest to replicate PPS.

Either his first or second formula was Noodler's based and for some reason, my Esties at the time didn't like it. I was using then as I do now, mainly PR inks. I got with David and we figured out a PR based formula. That is what that writing sample is done with. I've since lost the recipe in a pooder mess-up (operator mess up) but it's here on FPN somewhere.

That was 4 or 5 years ago, time, and DCW, have marched on.

His current recipe is recipe #9. I don't think they'll be any more recipes as he thinks he's nailed PPS about as close as it can be nailed.

It's pretty much a moot point to me as I still have around 2 bottles worth of PPS cartridges. Though it IS Very Cool that he Finally came to the end of his line in replications.

That's beautiful. I really appreciate how they're using tried and tested models as a base for their work. I really adore the finish on Urushi pens, but I find that the design and shape of the pens themselves are a little too bare and harsh. In my opinion, they focus too much on the lacquer and not enough on the overall pen, but with such fine work I'm not surprised.

My dream would be a double jewel, cedar blue in color, gold clip, with a medium nib.

Owner of many fine Parker fountain pens... and one Lamy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
