Twbsi And Jowo Nib Units

Namo

Recommended Posts

I am sorry since I am sure this has been answered a numerous time, but I can't fond an answer. So: can you replace the regular nib by a #6 JoWo nib unit as a unit?

Since I am here, does anyone have any news about the all metal version (850?)?

Thanks!

TWSBI Vac 700 and (I think) Micarta have #6 JoWo nibs, so swapping in another nib of same size should be fine; Diamond 580 is no good, it takes a #5, while the Mini and the Classic are smaller again (narrower at least, don't know about sizing).

A JoWo #6 nib should fit in the section of a Vac 700 or a Micarta (I *think* - I don't own either pen, so cannot confirm). They *won't* fit a Diamond 580 or Mini. If you can find a supplier of #5 JoWo nibs, you should be ok at least with the 580;the Mini nib is smaller again, but I don't know if it's a #5 with narrower "wings", or fits a smaller size category...

Thanks! That helps - but what I mean, is does a JoWo unit fit in the Twabi section?

I've got a couple of Vac 700s; they happily use both JoWo and Bock #6 nibs. The 5xx and Mini use smaller nibs.

The nib/feed unit unscrews from the section, you have to take the nib out of the collar of that combined nib/feed unit, and put the jowo/etc nib into that, then screw that back into the section.

So it does work! Thanks!

Namo, you have me confused here - what KIND of TWSBI pen are you trying to do this with? You can pull the TWSBI nib unit apart on any or all of their pens - the nib and feed are friction fit within the 'collar', as Karl has mentioned above - but you can ONLY fit a #6 nib JoWo into a nib unit that's designed to take a nib that size, that is, the Micarta or the Vac 700. For the Diamond 580, you'll need to buy a #5 nib, which is visibly smaller - a #6 won't fit.

I am probably confusing. I have a JoWo unit made for #6 nibs I'm which I fitted a Platinum nib. I am looking for a pen with which I could use this unit, without disassembling it since I am not sure I really could put it back together. Twsbi is rational choice, and the grip of the 700 will not work for me I am afraid. That leave the 580 for now (or the Micarta, but this not on my plans). I was hoping to fit this init on my Corona, but since this one is lost on the hand of a pen customer for more than 1 1/2 year now, iy may be better for me to count the Corona out of the equation.

Many thanks for your answers, guys!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
