Now, seriously... I don't expect anything to be the "same"... unless is actually the same ...

 

Those two are very close, and I will vote that the only way you can see the difference is by putting them side by side.

 

In fact, we have all seen how the same ink from the same bottle on the same paper with different pens/nibs can look very different.

 

 

In summary... Ellis Island is extremely close.. ;)

On Amber's sample I can easily notice that Ellis has more green.

I have Ellis at home.. I am sure I can find the pen/paper combination that will make them look very similar.

 

 

 

 

 

Edit to say... I have noticed that colors that look extremely similar to my eyes.... looked completely different when scanned.

Really, I think Manhattan in much closer because Ellis has that greenish tint and Starry does not.

I now repent. I liked Yama Dori on a sheet from Amber and also I kinda like the Kobe Kitanozaka. Seems that I like them when they're vivid. I don't like them when they're gray like in a Teal-Black. I only hate them when they're sold to me as "Blue" or "Blue Black", but then the sentiment mostly comes from disillusion and the sinking feeling that I've been tricked again :wallbash:

I can say that I can see the difference when they are apart. I've taken another photo.

 

I would say that 54th Mass has the same blue quality, VGSN was a better ink to use, it was wetter and not fussy at all. 54th M didn't sign to me in the same way.

I'd highly recommend Midnight Blue (regular line up) of Manhattan blue. Both are wonderful inks.

I missed my chance by not being here enough just when they were selling it. I have the other two FPN inks, and they're good too. But I wish I could have been here for the Starry Night sales.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
