2015 Hobonichi Planner To Be Released Soon

I picked up my Techo at the post office yesterday. Clearly I live in the backwaters of America because the postal clerk was pretty excited at seeing a package from Japan.

The first thing that caught my eye was how nicely packaged the planner and cover were. Clearly some thought went into the presentation of the product in its packaging. Simple, but effective.

The other thing that struck me was that the planner smells like lemons!

Also, if you're put off a bit by the price of the leather covers, don't hesitate to purchase one of the fabric covers. I bought a plain dark blue cover and it is really quite nice. While I'm sure that it's not as luxurious as leather, it will look right at home on my desk or in a meeting.

I got my Techno Cousin and cover today. I didnt get the fabric cover but the plasticky one, and it is quite awful, to be honest. Feels cheap, doesnt fit like a glove, etc.

The diary is really nice and i can see myself getting a nicer, leather cover for it and binning the stock, plastic case.

I also received my Techno cousin today! Love the Midnight Leather case, buttery soft and the Tomoe River is great! (Rhodia pads and now converted ex-Moleskine diary user here).

I have my planner in hand, and I ordered a custom cover from Renaissance Art and am waiting, drooling into my mailbox.

Just got an email to let me know that mine is on the way. Let's see now how long it takes.

Best Wishes,

I just put in my order for my first Hobonichi, an English planner and the Sashiko cover. If I really like them I might put an order in for the midnight blue cover around Christmas or Spring.

Mine arrived yesterday. I ordered both sizes as I prefer the larger size but am unsure how much I will take it with me as it's much heavier. (I take my 2014 A6 version with me everywhere, it never leaves my side.) The paper quality is the same (yay!) and the little notebooks that fit in the external rear pocket are excellent. I'm very happy and 2015 can't come soon enough!

Imagine my shock when my credit card came flying out of my wallet! Just ordered the 2015 planner with the wine leather zipper case. I know from experience how wonderful their leather covers are-- I purchased the black one with the snap closure earlier this year-- and got both the English and Japanese planners. The Japanese version is so appealing and it's not impossible to follow-- the months and days are clearly discernible. The leather covers exemplify " you get what you pay for"-- they really are of the highest quality-- tanned in Italy, according to the Hobnichi website.

Can i ask a favor of someone who has a Cousin? Could you please measure its dimensions in inches or cm, and post it here or PM me?

TIA!

That's the thing - i am not getting that with the one i am measuring.

I am getting

L: 215mm / 8-1/2"

W: 152mm / 6-0"

Thickness: 175mm / 11/16"

The width seems to be more than the standard 148mm.

ETA: I compared it to an A5 Leuchterm1917, and the Hobonichi Cousin is indeed wider.

I bought 2015 planner & sprung for the Sashiko cover. After reading about the craftsmanshift, I was sold. Hopefully it will last 1-2 years. I can't wait!

Thanks for taking the time, FPP!

I keep ending with 152mm on the W side - oh well. I am going ahead with that size for my order @ Renaissance.

No regrets here with the A5 choice!

No. It was delivered without attracting attention of HMC & E. I find that most goods I buy direct from Japan rarely get hit with import VAT & admin fees, unlike items from the USA, that get stopped every time.

Well, sod's law has come into play here. Decided to order directly from Japan, instead of paying the quite expensive cost at the sole British stockists. Turned out not to be so clever after all!

I've just been hit with import tax and 'clearance fees' totalling £27.83 for a planner and leather cover. Goods will only be delivered one day after the fees have cleared!

Anyone else had this issue or - which is probably more likely - have I just been unlucky?

Best Wishes,

David

Let's hope they

Here's my measurements of a 2013 Cousin, which I assume to be the same size as the 2015.

Height: 210mm

Width: 148mm

Depth (or thickness): 19mm

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
