A Tale Of Two Caps

Scriptorium Pens

Recommended Posts

Have you ever wanted one pen with two different caps? This customer did. He asked for a custom Muse with no step. The barrel and section are in Amber Water acrylic from Bear Tooth Woods, and the barrel finial is in Alabaster Swirl acrylic from Exotic Blanks. The two caps are in the same materials, just switched around for contrast. The two materials play well with each other. The Alabaster's cream has some slight swirls and streaks of caramel, just enough to reflect the amber in the other material. The pen is fitted with a juicy 18k Medium JoWo nib, and is a cartridge/converter/eyedropper filler.

I can hardly wait to receive this pen with its two caps! The grace and beauty of this pen (Scriptorium Pens model called Muse) and its subtle lines along with the color combination far exceed what I'd hoped for. And kudos to Renee Meeks who is a most gracious and extremely capable pen turner. My overall experience with Scriptorium Pens has been exceptional. I highly recommend her if you're hankering for that one of a kind pen you've always wanted.

Gorgeous looking pen, in both iterations. Beautiful lines on the pen, and looks like tip-top craftsmanship. I hope someday to to order a pen from you. After the kids quit needing shoes every couple months and textbooks probably.

Some people say they march to a different drummer. Me? I hear bagpipes.

It is like having two pens. Different caps on the same barrel certainly makes a difference.....a weekend pen and a weekday pen!

It's so interesting how each cap affects the personality of the pen.

By the way, I love your new avatar picture!

That does make a remarkable difference. Is the next trend going to be having multiple caps to match different outfits (matching ties for those who still have to wear them)?

Sounds like an interesting idea, but I gave up ties long ago except for the occasional "have to" situation. What really gave me the notion for two caps was the way these two materials complement one another, each one revealing different aspects of the other depending on the amount of material.

Excellent decision :)

I looked at the pen again and for some reason it reminds me of my favorite...a root beer float. Usually I'm not into the swirly acrylics but this pen is really tasty.

What a great idea! The colors of this pen are a wonder.

I have one of Renee's Muse pens. I think if the house were burning down I would tuck the cat under one arm, grab the Muse and flee.

What about 6 new caps, one for every day of the week? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, SUNDAY!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
