Capless Rollerball

Hi,

I'm new to pens and have just bought a Waterman hemisphere fp and a Parker jotter bp. I'd really like a capless rollerball, preferably one that takes a wide variety of refills. I like the look of the Retro 51 tornado but I'd really like a clicker. Can anyone help?

I have a Lamy Swift Palladium that is a push-button rollerball, but it certainly does not take anything other than its own refill. In fact I do not really believe there exist an appreciable degree in rollerball refill cross-compatibility.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Hi, sorry if I posted in the wrong place, I wasn't sure! thank you for your answers. I'm starting to think that what I'm looking for doesn't exist! Basically the Tornado (which seems to take anything) with a clicker. Guess I'll just get a Tornado then. Thanks guys. Off to try my hemisphere!

There is a couple of Kickstarter pens that may meet your want: Big I Design Ti Click pens and Tactile Turn Mover pens. Both are "clickers" and take a variety of refills.

RNHC you are a genius! I love the look of the Tactile Turn pens, think I'll be pledging for one of each :).

Folks,

Really the Retro 51 capless rollerball is simply a bp body that accepts any of gel type or rb type refills that conform to the Parker (G2?) form factor. In other words, these are refills sized and shaped identical to a traditional Parker jotter bp refill. You can get refills like this from a lot of sources including but not limited to Schmidt (the EasyFlow line), Monteverde, Parker, etc etc. The options are many. In that sense any bp body that uses that sort of refill size can become a capless rollerball!

FYI, I actually like - and use -- Retro 51 products. Just had to clear up this misconception, that's all.

My perfect clicker would be a combination of Ti Click and Tactile Turn.

I know, I know. You can't please everyone. :P

I like the simple bold design of Tactile Turn but don't like the seam in the middle and is a bit too thick. I like the upgraded material and functional design of Ti Click including the hidden seam and integrated spring but don't like the finish and is a bit bland look-wise.

A slightly thinner Tactile Turn with hidden seam and integrated spring of Ti Click in brushed titanium would be my ideal clicker. :D

I have a Parker Jotter (the all metal one) and I am very happy with the Gel Rollerball insert for it. It writes well, is very dark and the refills can be dirt cheap if you don't buy Parker brand.

not sure if this is up your ally. (uses a converter to take up fountain pen ink, so very wide variety of ink choices).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
