Scriptorium Pens

Recommended Posts

This is one of three pens I've been working on this week in the mesmerizing Amber Water acrylic from Bear Tooth Woods. This is a medium Muse, fitted with a JoWo (Meisternib) #6 nib and a Cartridge/Converter/Eyedropper filling system. My standard Muse style has a step from section to barrel, but I might get rid of the stepped version altogether, since nearly every customer seems to ask for one with no step! This Muse is headed for inventory. :D

Dimensions:
Length capped: 143mm/5.6”
Length uncapped: 137mm/5.3”
Length posted: 175mm/6.8”
Cap length: 61mm/2.4”
Cap diameter: 16.93mm/.66” at widest
Barrel diameter: 13.75mm/.54” at threads, 15.24mm/.6” at widest
Section diameter: 12.69mm/.49” at widest, 11.51mm/.45” at narrowest

Oh this is lovely. Everyone should have a Scriptorium Muse. I know this because I have one!

The colored tip of the cap is so lovely how it catches the light.

Step on the pen helps in correctly sealing the nib and the feed so that the ink won't dry up as fast.

If you don't have the step, have an inner cap. In this case, inner cap would be just extension of the inside of the cap wall (at 90°) blocking the tip of the section. Both the step and the inner cap also help in giving a positive stop to the threads and prevent the user from screwing in the cap too much and eventually screwing the pen!

Moreover, step on this pen does not look very prominent. If someone prefers not to have the step, it could be rounded off a bit, and if someone is completely allergic to step, then the inner cap comes into picture.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
