Which Has More Shading, Faber Castell Or Pelikan Garnet?

I have the choice to buy either, but favor shading over cost.

@€13 for Pelikan vs 25 for some what more with Faber Castel..

I do not know. But their is a nice review on the faber Castell in innk reviews now. Shading is excellent from what I can judge from the photo's.

Problem is I have a Herbn terre de Feu already and I am afraid the colours are very much alike..... Just to buy t for then nice bottle is needless I believe

Pelikan Garnet shades quite nicely but I find it a horrible ink to write with - somehow watery and dry at the same time. I'm happy to send you a sample if you'd like to try it before making a decision?

Garnet doesn't shade very well in my experience, unless you are using a very broad nib. Its colour seems consistent, but I love the colour so this is no problem for me.

The varying experiences of users is one reason I find fountain pen inks fascinating. I get a fair bit of shading from my Pelikan Garnet, in my wet vintage Aurora 88 with medium nib.

It really depends on the pen you are using. These inks are more sensitive to the flow of the pen that almost any others I know. I recommend getting a sample of each for your pen if at all possible. I could send you a cartridge or two of the GvF-C (don't have bottles; think of cartridges as 0.5ml samples that are hard to open) and a sample of the Pelikan if you get stuck.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

This is fantastic; I'm going to end up with samples of both.

Each from a different fine poster. :notworthy1:

Will report on it.... :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
