How Does The Con 70 Work?

Recommended Posts

I just got the Justus 95 and it has the CON 70 and I exchanged it with the CON 50. Now I looked at the CON 70 I have no clue how it works. (I do know how to use it.) It's bogging my mind right now.

Just a off topic question, but if there is CON20, CON50, and CON70. What is the CON10, CON30, CON40, CON60, and etc?

#Nope

the con70 works on the principle of a multistroke filler with breather tube. same principle as the parker vacumatic, the bulb fillers etc.

That is the problem I have no clue how those systems work either. My mind says this can't be possible to get ink up, but after 3 pushes it's filled. It's magic!

Then why the huge number skips?

that is easy to solve, google is your friend and there is plenty of material available already on the internet about these filling mechanisms, even the links to original patents where these ideas were put forward.

I have no idea why pilot made those number jumps, only they can answer.

I have a certain feeling that I should've taken some physics classes to understand the diagrams I've seen.

Like only until a few days ago I never knew how a pump pen filled until I saw the Edison's animated GIF image.

To fully understand you should be able to read diagrams and have some understanding of physics.

Basically: when you press the button a bit of vacuum is created, this sucks in some ink. Next pump, again a bit of vacuum and some more ink. After a few pumps the converter is as full as it gets. There is some clever device that makes that the ink does not squirt out again once you pump again.

The number skips are due to the convention of many Japanese manufacturers to have model numbers based on the rough price of the pen or part. Platinum does this also.

Con-20 --> 200 yen

Con-50 --> 500 yen

Con-70 --> 700 yen

Well, who'd have thought that was the reason? Thanks

Why couldn't they rename it for the US? Like CON10/11 and CON6 and etc?

But I was seriously thinking there was some super amazing reason.

It's a good pen for drawing. It's better for drawing than actual writing.

From what I have seen it only applies to the pens with 3 digits...the Custom 74 is 10,000 YEN and the Justus 95 is 30,000 YEN but the Custom 912 is 20,000 YEN.

If you use the actually item/model number, then it matches up a little better

Custom 845 --> FKV-5MR --> 50000 yen

Custom 823 --> FKK-3MRP --> 30000 yen

Justus 95 (95 is for Pilot's 95th anniversary so it's different) --> FJ-3MR --> 30000 yen

Custom Heritage 91 --> FKVH-1MR --> 10000 yen

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
