My Lamy 2000M Is Somewhere Between Austin And Dallas

I'm currently traveling and took a side trip to Austin this weekend. On the drive from Austin to Dallas I think my Lamy 2000m with Pendleton Brown nib fell out of my pocket. I'm so stupid. I was wearing cargo pants with a convenient pocket thats wide but not to deep which is perfect for a pen to sit alone. But apparently the velcro wasn't too strong. From what I can remember it could be in 6 places...

  • Alongside a gas pump somewhere between Austin and Dallas.
  • In a parking spot by the front door of the gas station.
  • In a bathroom stall inside the same gas station.
  • Alongside the gas station at the Whattaburger/Gas station at DFW on the way to the rental car return.
  • Inside a Silver Toyota Camry at Enterprise
  • Lost forever.

I'm so bummed I hadn't used my other pen since getting it for a good deal on eBay. I love that pen. Maybe there's a way I can write this off on my expenses.

You have my sympathy for your loss, as I have a Lamy 2000 as well. In fact, it's still the most expensive pen I own.

Man, I hate losing things! It doesn't happen to me often but when it does, it's upsetting.

Yep, I lost a favorite pen of mine in the same way. I feel your grief. Guess it's time to count the shekels and get a new one. When you get your new Pendleton Brown nib, you will be feeling the joy. And you will hold onto this one very carefully. I never lost a second pen that way.

Best to you,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

My Lamy 2K in EF became my favorite a long time ago. I would cry if I lost her. My heart is with you. It may turn up...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
