DUKE Bamboo

"Dear Norman, The Duke Bamboo fp arrived today, and I appreciate your
sending it so promptly. The pen is very attractive, well-made, and
comfortable to use. The ink flow is just as I like it, and I appreciate very
much your making the flow adjustments I requested. What continues to amaze
me is that a pen of this quality can be offered at such a low price whereas
other pens costing much more offer much less. In many instances, I guess, it
is the name one pays for, but that means nothing to me if the pen doesn't
write well or is cheaply made. Your enclosed note meant even more this time
because of your video showing the process you use to form them. They are a
wonderful addition to your excellent service, and I save them all."
C. K., San Antonio, TX

"First of all, thank you very much for the Duke Bamboo pen that I ordered
from you recently. I would like to say more fully that the pen is beautiful,
exceptionally well made and writes superbly (which I attribute in no small
measure to your checking of each and every nib,
especially going by my past experiences with nibs out of the box on far more
expensive pens); and the whole buying experience is made a pleasure by your
first class service and attention to detail."
M. F., United Kingdom

"The Bamboo pen just arrived. I'm afraid my English is not good
enough to describe how pleased I feel. From the gorgeous case to the clean
writing: the pen itself is so beautiful, the feel in my hand while writing
is that of something strong and delicate at the same time. Wonderful. Thank
you."
C. M., Laredo, SPAIN

Bookworm Yellow Filigree

http://hisnibs.com/BookWormYellowFilligreePenCap_small.jpg

"Dear Norman, Thank you for your wonderful service. I have the Bookworm
Yellow Filigree inked up, and it's a delightful pen. Thank you for whatever
work you did on the nib and feed to make it work right out of the wrapper.
And thank you for your delightful note enclosed in the box. I'm happy to let
others know that you give good service at a good price."
A. S., Mineola, NY

"Mr. Haase, I received my new pen today. I love the Book Worm and find the
small flaw is only a 'character mark'. I inked it with the Chocolat Private
Reserve from my last order, and enjoyed making a long list with it. I am
pleased with how pretty it is and feminine it feels in my hand, and yet
looks like a fine tool when in my husbands hand. Very pleasant to view and a
nice pen to write with. Slightly heavy, but not awkward. Amazing value for
such a slim price."
J. F., Dallas, OR

"Norm: I was very impressed with the last three pens that I bought from you.
In fact the Bookworm Yellow Filigree is sitting on my desk in front of me
and I use it every day. It writes very smoothly and I love it...it is a
truly fine writing instrument and it looks great!"
A. S., Laurel, MD

Jinhao Starry Night

http://hisnibs.com/JinhaoStarryNightCapPen3_small.jpg

"Hi Norman. Oh, these are just beautiful... I have a few nose-bleedingly
expensive Japanese raden pens and I've become reluctant to use one of them
because the lacquer's pitting. This Jinhao has all the bling and fascination
of raden without my having to worry about damaging them in daily use. The
nibs are wonderful and the whole pen feels well made and satisfyingly
robust. You really can't beat Chinese pens. They never cease to amaze me.
Thanks!"
K.T., United Kingdom

"Hi Norman. Just got back in town from Portland for St. Patrick's Day.
Picked up my mail and my Jinhao Starry Nights had arrived in good order.
Rinsed it out in soapy water, rinsed again in plain, and then inked it. What
a fantastic writer! I don't know if you had time to check the nib, but it
was perfect. And, while your photography was about state-of-the-art for this
pen, it was SO much better in person. Especially when I had it out in the
sunlight. This pen is going up into my EDC list, for sure. Appreciate your
fast shipping and customer service. This is the first time I've purchased
from you (I'm fairly new to fountain pens) but
I'll be checking your site and blog regularly. Mark me down as a satisfied
customer! Thanks so much again."
D. P., La Grande, OR

"Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for a perfect order, and such speedy
service! I am very much impressed with the Jinhao Starry Nights fountain
pen! It is quite lovely, and much more solid and well-made than I expected
for the price. Thank you too for swapping in the black Monteverde nib - this
is a terrific pen that I will enjoy every day!"
S. J., Bothell, WA

DUKE Carbon Black

http://hisnibs.com/DukeCarbonFibreBlackMain_small.jpg

Although the Carbon Fibre Black is so named by DUKE, I don't believe that
the barrel is carbon fiber, as the red and turquoise ones are.. Rather, it
has a rather stunning high-gloss lacquer finish on brass, that makes for a
very attractive pen. Hence I've renamed it the Carbon Black.

"The pens showed up and they're great! It's incredible the value in them. I
really like the Duke pen. It's almost as buttery as my Pilot Custom 74. The
nib also seems to be a slight stub, which has a nice effect when writing."
L. K., Australia

"I've received my pens and ink. Thank you again for your help in making my
selection. The quality of service you provide really differentiates you
from your competitors ... the quick responses, timely shipping, and hand
written note all made for a great experience. I'll definitely be a repeat
customer. The Duke Carbon Fiber is everything I hoped it would be. I'm
impressed by the quality. Last week I had the opportunity to write with a
Mont Blanc roller ball pen and it felt cheap (light and plastic) compared to
my new Duke. The weight of the pen is really nice, the subtle blue is very
attractive, and I'm amazed at how fine the light medium nib writes."
W. D., Canada

"Hi Norman. Many thanks for the red carbon fibre Duke pen which arrived
today. It's a real beauty! The pen writes extremely smoothly - and, even
with the postage to the UK, is great value for money. It handles like a pen
selling at several times the price..."
M. H., Sale, United Kingdom

Uranus Harlequin Orange/Lavender

http://hisnibs.com/UranusHarlequinOrangeVioletMain_small.jpg

"I did want to say how great the Harlequin pen is - good feel in the hand
and a great writer. It has moved to the front of "being used" pens in the
collection. I'll probably order another next year. It is a great value. The
Pilot stub nib is a new experience for me - I'm curious to see if my writing
improves when I use it - it probably can't get any worse."
D. G., De Witt, NY

"Got it, they look beautiful. Wonderful job, yet again. They make the best
graduation presents - inexpensive to pricey, your pens always get an
"ooooooh!" from the younger crowd. Thank you so much!"
R. B., Ithaca, NY

Jinhao Silver Chain Dragon

http://hisnibs.com/JinhaoSilverChainDragonCapNib3_small.jpg

"Norman -- a belated thank-you for the Silver Chain Dragon, which I LOVE
LOVE LOVE!!!! It is beautiful, it feels good in my hand, it warms up when I
write (I love metal pens), and the nib is lovely."
M. D., Portland, OR

"Norman, I can not thank you enough for the silver chain dragon. It is a
beautiful pen with an outstanding, oversized, ornate nib. The balance is
phenomenal, especially with the cap posted. And the robust dragon clip is
also a work of art. This pen writes like butter and was a great investment.
I have started a fountain pen trend in my school! Whenever someone asks me
where I got the pen, I always say, 'No other than hisnibs.com!'"
J. G., Wantagh, NY

"Hi Norman, I received my Jinhao Dreadnaught and Silver Chain Dragon
fountain pens. I prepped them and inked them up with Diamine Oxblood ink.
Wow! What a wonderfully smooth writing experience with each of them! I
write with the pen unposted. Along with the smooth writing, I truly enjoy
the weight and balance of each pen in my writing hand, but especially that
of the Dreadnaught. Thank you for not only providing such a pleasant
writing experience, but also for the care that you give to each and every
nib, and the special personal touch that you added to my order. This was my
first purchase from you, and am looking forward to my next one."
T. L., Jamaica, NY

DUKE Mako Flecked Green

http://hisnibs.com/DUKEMakoGreenVertical_small.jpg

"Norman, the Duke Mako green marble pen was received well. Nice smooth nib.
It will be used many years to come. As with my other Duke pens, I really
enjoy them all."
M. H., Mililani, HI

"Norman, I wanted to let you know the children have arrived! I've already
filled and used the Mako and it's great. I love a pen with some weight. I
can already feel the same with the Pinstripe...The weight on both pens is
good and the action is smoooooth! I like a weighty pen so I don't have to
bear down (ballpoints). These just lay in your hand and you can guide the
point. Thx again."
D. H., Lexington, KY

"Hi Norman, thanks again for quick delivery of the pens. I got mine
Thursday and Britta's arrived in CA on Friday. She immediately filled her
616 and started writing a letter; she loves the retro design and the
burgundy ink. I'm greatly impressed with my 616 demi as well. I bought it
as a "pocket pen," easy to carry and take notes with, and I've already found
myself favoring it even over my trusty Pilot 78Gs-it's so light and writes
so easily that sometimes it's almost like I'm not holding a pen! The Mako
is a beauty; it feels and writes like a high-class European pen, but the
whole family has admired the design and color. My 4-year-old son
volunteered to clean it before I filled it, leaving me to take care of the
616 by myself. And the penroll is lovely, too-I had a little trouble
getting it back from my 2-year-old, who immediately decided such a colorful
case should be for his own treasures! I attended my first writing workshop
in years today, and used the 616 the whole time; I'm delighted that using
these pens has helped me rediscover my love for writing. Thanks again, and
be well."
C. P., Easton, PA

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
