Diamine Tyrian Purple

You have to try this ink! Buy, beg, borrow, steal, ... a sample from somewhere. Even if you do not like the colour and do not care for the shading. There is something about how this ink feels that is tremendously satisfying. The wetness and lubrication is just so.

 

This ink was released on 1 August 2014.

DAILY WRITER: Certainly.

BUSINESS USE: Yes, with the usual caveats about any ink with red components.

ILLUSTRATIONS: Oh yes! Can cover large areas.

NOTES: Yes.

LETTERS: Yes, please! Do send me letters with this ink.

LOVE LETTERS: Absolutely! More romantic than passionate.

 

PERFORMANCE

 

FEATHERING: 4/4 - none at 10x magnification with the flex writing

BLEEDTHROUGH: 3/4 - very minimal; only seen on the poorest papers

SHADING: 3/4 - really beautiful shading that does not overwhelm

SHEEN: 0/4 - none seen

FLOW: medium - high with great lubrication

WATERPROOF: 1/4 - faint lines remain, possibly enough to read the text

DRYING TIME: 2/4

FADE RESISTANCE: (not tested)

Just as I enjoyed and praised your article on Diamine Ancient Oak I get pleasantly suprised by this fine review. What a nice way to start the day (even the sun is shining now)....

 

What a nice purple. Do not know if it is a true Tyrian Purple though. I have used some pictures of the mentioned Wikieia artcle in my article Ink History Antique, I published a few months ago... I will publish thesecon article Ink History Middle Ages soon...

Lovely colour beautiful shading and indeed very usuable on a daily basis.....

 

That will be another Gallon of Diamine I must buy.

 

Again I like the text in your articles... Although raised as a catholic in Breda Holland I am not really religious.... I am very much interested in History and Humanity though and I like reading aboutthis a lot. Religion has of course had and still has a major influence on history, humanity and our fellow human "neighbours"... It moves people that's why I find it interesting and I love to read your handwritten texts... And of course for the Inks and it's qulities too....

 

Can hardly wait for your nex pleasant suprise.... please test all your gallons of Diamine here :-) :-)

As I suspected, Autumn Oak will not be squeezing into my ink draw, but I shall certainly be making room for Tyrian Purple.

I couldn't resist the Autumn Oak and Tyrian Purple. The shading of the Autumn Oak is wonderful but as a writing ink on Tomoe I find it hard to read. I might have to try it on different paper. The Tyrian Purple is lovely - I'm currently in a "purple" phase so it fits right in. I'm using it in my EDC today.

Maybe I need new glasses. But in this case I cannot distinguish it from Merlot.

With Diamine I, sometimes, wonder if a would succeed in a blind test.

Wow, very lovely! Is it a new one? Relatively speaking, since I'm kind of not familiar with this name in Diamine's list, but will looking forward to it, although its a bit close to Merlot, just lighter... Not mention I wouldn't call this to purple at all.. but that's only my opinion.

I like the idea that Tyrian Purple is named after an ancient dye sourced from a sea mollusc :-)
