Nakaya Wait Times Via Cfp

Hi All,

I ordered a Nakaya today! SO excited! Naka-ai, writer, Ao-Tamenuri, Ruthenium plating.

:D :D

...and now the waiting and the waiting and the waiting begins...

HOWEVER! there is a slim hope that one will arrive earlier than the quoted six months. CFP (nibs.com) receives shipments from Nakaya every so often and once in a while there are unclaimed Nakayas in that shipment. It's possible one may be what I ordered, so I would get priority on buying that one.

My questions is... Has anyone ever received a Nakaya early through this method?

Six months is so long.

I recently purchased my first Japanese fountainpen from Nibs.com. It is a Nakaya Decapod Writer Aka Tamenuri with a soft M nib. To my very pleasant surprise (after reading on this forum about expected long wait times) they had this pen in stock. I am not aware whether this was an unclaimed order or a pen they usually stock. I am however very pleased with the customer service received and extremely happy with the pen. I have focused for the past decades on German, Italian and a few English pens, but am now convinced that there are more Nakaya's in my future......

I know about the in stock chart they update weekly. I have previously ordered a Namiki Falcon with Spencerian grind from CFP, and the service was great.

I just wonder if anyone or how many have ordered a Nakaya not in stock, was told the timeline but their order came sooner

Nakaya lead times are highly influenced by the amount of artwork to be done on the pen in the first place.

Secondly , most of the standard finishes are being produced in batches.

If you are lucky , your pen is produced in a recent batch , if not you have to wait to the next rotation.

Thanks Arran,

I'm guessing batches of any given standard finish probably number around 20 based on the videos I've seen, and given rotation schedules of 6 months may be the full cycle for each standard finish. Also, given that CFP is out of every standard finished Naka-Ai I'm hoping new batches are coming quickly.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
