Vintage Townsend: Model Name/number Or Year?

Hi all:

 

I recently purchased a vintage Townsend pen --partly because of the fun(ky) design, and partly because the nib was described as super flexible. Do any of the experts have any information on this pen that they would be willing to share? I assume from the celluloid body and the brassing on the clip that this is probably from the 1930s.

Very nice....very.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

If I remember correctly there was twenty or thirty years where Cross only made Ball points.

It's thin matt black & gold one was one of the high status ball points in @ 1970. It cost close to $10....which was a lot back then.

 

I had gone over to the PX to buy one, when after I got done looking at a black and gold Snorkel I got mugged by the P-75 brothers.

$22 & 18. Silver pens for silver dollars.

$19.92 = 1 oz silver or a silver dollar.

So even a $10 ball point was real expensive in the day of the silver dime.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
