I recently purchased a Lamy Al-Star with a medium nib. I also have a Lamy Safari with a fine nib. When I replaced the Al-star's medium nib with the Safari's fine nib there was very little to no ink flow when using the Al-star. When I placed the medium back on the the Al-star it worked perfectly. Any reason why the the fine Safari nib did not with the Al-star?

There was probably a misalignment of the nib versus the feed. If the tines are bent slightly upward then you might have issues with the inkflow.

There could be some kind of debris in the feed, and a difference in width of the nib slit resulted in poorer flow. Scrub it with a toothbrush, and see if that helps.

Tines could possibly be too tight together on the Fine nib as well. Take a look at the slit difference between the two if you have a jeweler's loupe. This is presuming that the Fine nib isn't working properly on the Safari, either. If it is, you may have just not been getting good ink flow from the feed to the nib and the above recommended cleaning is a great place to start.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
