Quick Question: Is 1911M/1911 Standard Size Comparable To Pelikan M200/m400?

Being eyeing a Caran d'Ache Ecridor and 1911 for a bit as my next pen next year, but overall design preferences make me lean toward the 1911, there is a considerable amount of $$$ difference between the M and full size and I would like to know if the M is about the size of a Pelikan M200/400, if you have pics it would be great!

thanks!

Hi Zepp,

1- The difference in the feel between the two is in the girth rather than the length, the full size is noticeably larger in the section.

2- The M is about the size of the M2xx/M4xx models in the body, but I think the section of the Sailor 1911m is a little narrower.

3- I'll take some photos for you either later today or tomorrow :)

The Sapporo is definitely not my cup of tea (or beer? :lticaptd: ) as I find it way too small.

Thanks Bigeddie! I wouldn't mind if the grip section of the Sailor 1911M is a little narrower, since I hold my Pelikan on the threads anyway :D

I find the Mid size 1911 considerably more comfortable to use My M205. The barrel 'bulge' is the main (if not only) reason.

Hi,

Here's a group portrait of an M200, Sheaffer 330 and a 1911M:

Ahh, I'm late to the party again. For anyone looking in the future here are my comparisons (which I have to post separately due to an elusive bug).

The 1911m was one of my first pens and remains a favorite, as does the 1911 full size. They feel very well built, and are right up there in terms of writing quality with MB146s and Pilot Custom 823s.

Let us know how your purchase goes :)

Hi,

I just brought an appetiser - you brought the main course and dessert to the party.

Whee!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
