Hello FPN Friends...

Sorry for Posting this Polemic question... I am not German I am Dutch, I am A Francophile and love Britain (and the English spoken there.) Well I honestly think every country has its beauty

Of course I know this is a silly question... Sorrry I am a simple silly bugger.

There is the USA

Parker Waterman (thanks to this company we now have well writing Fountain Pens. Bexley of course the beautiful Edison, Noodlers etc. etc.

France,

J Herbin G Lalo, Dupont, recife etc

Merry old England

with the glorious Onoto, Conway Stewart and the proud Diamine etc.

and of course many more countries....

But now GERMANY

Pelikan, Lindtner, Mont Blanc, Lamy, Graf from Faber Castell,, Diplomat

Inks

De Atramentis, Rohrer and Klinger, Mont Blanc, Berthe, Lamy, Pelikan, Graf von Faber Castell...

Jowo and Böck export ther nibs world wide for small fountain pen makers.

Leuchtturm and too many to mention here....

Sorry I know this question is polemic.... It isnot to offen you but just to tease you....

My goal is to get as many Fountain Pens, Inks, papers, etc from as many countries as possible (May take a while though!!!!)

I hope a lot of you react with adding more names from more countries...

I would like to start the ultimate list of (active) new and old Fountain Pen Companies, Ink Manufacturers, paper manufacturers etc etc....

This way I have my goal list....

Hope I did not put you in too much arousal with this polemic topic. :-)

Best Wishes to all of you worldwide

Peter

Unfortunately... Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer and Cross pens are no longer made in the USA. Of those four brands, I believe Cross is the only one still under American ownership. Pens are still produced in the USA by Bexley, Edison and Franklin-Christoph, that I'm aware of. (And Bexley have also done manufacturing for Gate City Pen Company and Peyton Street Pens.)

If your goal is to collect fountain pens from as many countries as possible, I would recommend adding Indian and Chinese pens to the list. Some Indian pens that come to mind include the Deccan Masterpiece, Gama Supreme and Ratnamson Supreme. Some Chinese brands that come to mind include Hero, Jinhao, Duke, etc.

May also add my favorite pen -- the Noodler Ahabs and Konrads. Made in various areas of the world, under design and contract by Nathan Tardiff. Not a glamorous pen but a practical, workman's pen that gives great daily writing. And easily adjusted to the user's preference by the user.

Enjoy,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

There are some very interesting German brands out there, I want to try a few more of them in particular Diplomat as you can see from my avatar I'm really keen on the Balance and can't wait to buy one next year. There are also some other good brands such as Worther and Online I want to try.

I also really like English Parker and own quite a few of them and hopefully will own a few more. It's so sad that New Haven is no more..

In terms of ink, I think the best two countries are the UK and France, UK for Diamine quality reasonably priced ink in ton of colours. France for J Herbin which makes some stunning inks.

I've never tried a Japanese pen so I can't compare them to pens I own.

I'm not to keen on these ghost company's who use a name of brand that ceased production year's ago and use moleskine style marketing to fill the gaps and to justify the price.

I think Germany has some stiff competition from Japan (and I'd give the nod to the latter), but there is no doubt that Germany has a rich fountain pen culture.

I think you'll find that several of the inks (Graf von Faber Castell, Montblanc, etc...) have recently moved production to Austria.

--edit--

P.S. - As an American stationed in Germany but having a fondness for The Netherlands... I said to a Dutch friend "One of my favorite things about the Netherlands is that everybody speaks English". He replied "That's because nobody can speak Dutch!"

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
