My favourite MB boutique in Hong Kong has reserved a Einstein FP for me. I have held it in hand and it is a beautifully pen. I really love it but am struggling in view of its high price! Can I have your expertise advice, please ??? Many thanks !!

I'm not very much into MB, I'm more into functional and industrial Design. But I really like the Einstein Design too, I think it's great and I would definitely get one if I would have the money to spare.

My Pens/Nibs (inked/active): Lamy Studio/Vista/Joy (XXF slight-flex custom | 14k EF | EF | F | 14k M | M | B | 14k 1.1 custom | 1.1 | 1.5 | 1.9), TWSBI Diamond 580 (F | Pendleton BadBoy | Zebra G | F.P.R. semi-flex), Pilot Falcon EF, Penkala Vintage 14k semi-flex, Pilot Parallel (2.4 | 3.8 | 6.0)

http://www.fp-ink.info/img/button.pngI'm still looking for help/data/supporters/sponsors for my Ink Database - It already contains over 900 Inks but is still low on data about the inks except on the Inks I got myself or where I found nice data sheets. So Im looking for these: InkSamples mailed to me, Permissions to use InkReviews - preferable by people who have a lot of InkReviews online, InkReviews mailed to me so I can scan them, Sponsors that will help me to finance InkSamples, People willing to trade InkSamples (list of available Inks from me is available via PM request - please include available Inks)

Its definitely a lovely pen. Its now the only limited edition pen I ink.

Its very heavy so I'm not sure I'd want to use it for extended periods of writing. This isn't an issue to me though as I don't have a need to write much, limiting myself to the odd list of note for which I have no concerns.

If you get sweaty hands I can imagine the metal grip section would make holding the pen awkward as you'd slip on the metal part.

My Collection: Montblanc Writers Edition: Hemingway, Christie, Wilde, Voltaire, Dumas, Dostoevsky, Poe, Proust, Schiller, Dickens, Fitzgerald (set), Verne, Kafka, Cervantes, Woolf, Faulkner, Shaw, Mann, Twain, Collodi, Swift, Balzac, Defoe, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Saint-Exupery, Homer & Kipling. Montblanc Einstein (3,000) FP. Montblanc Heritage 1912 Resin FP. Montblanc Starwalker Resin: FP/BP/MP. Montblanc Traveller FP.

I collect MB LEs.. the Einstein.. Meh.. I personally skipped it. For that price, many other lovely editions if you don't have they should reserve your priority

FWIW, it's one of the few LE MB pens that I would purchase, partly because I like Einstein but also because the design actually reflects the person it is honouring IMHO. That said, I don't think I would buy it if I didn't have the money, especially if it came down to basics (pen vs. food); OTOH, if it's just a question of this pen being the only pen of 2014 vs. a few pens, I'd be more tempted to plunk down the money and try to hold off on other purchases.

I say go for it. It's not just an interesting pen, it's a LE, which means it will keep and maybe increase its value in the future.

I would not bet on it.

I DO like the Einstein, but there are other LEs I would purchase before it. The Hitchcock perhaps?

The Einstein and the Da Vinci are the only 2 pens in the Famous Persons series i am considering buying. The only thing holding me back is that I dont see myself clipping a $2500+ pen to my t-shirt pocket and going about my day - and if i cannot use it regularly, i dont want to own it.

If i didnt have that hangup, i'd be all over it like white on rice.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

Agreed...it is not wise to buy pens as an investment. Buy them because you love it, or it writes better than any other pen you have tried, or you love the esthetics, but not for investment purposes.

Agree - would definitely choose the Hitchcock before the Einstein.

Thank you all for the valuable comments. I think I'v made the decision, i.e. to save the money to buy some other LE / MB that I can use regularly. Once again thank you !!

It's not a pen for me because I don't like metal grips. I find them much too slippery. The Einstein is also a heavy pen.

Well, I'm a bit late to the whole thing, but I'd say buy it. As far as I'm concerned, it is one of the most beautiful pens MB ever made and that cap is to die for, a very, very good-looking nod to its namesake.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
