Does anyone know if the Dupont Royal blue can be a good replacement for Parker Penman Saphir? I am thinking color, but also behavior of the ink.

Thanks!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My bottle of Dupont Bleu Royale comes in a box with "Made in France" printed on it.

I don't have experience with Penman Sapphire. Is Aurora Blue anywhere close? Or Diamine Sargasso Sea?

I don't know actually. The Penman is an awesome ink! Seems Private reserve American blue (?) is the closest match.

There is a 120ml bottle of Dupont for sale at Martini. Price seems decent.

I've got 5 bottles of DuPont inks of various colors. I've never really used them - bought them for the rare DuPont Blue Black that was the color of myth years ago, along with some other colors I'd never seen before. Great quality ink.

I have five 40ml ST Dupont bottles, but only three colors. It seems that one of the bottles and box are labeled as Bleu Nuit but instead contains Turquoise. That makes three Turquoise, one Blue Nuit and one Sienna.

Approximate Ink Quantity:
Turquoise - 35/40ml
Turquoise - 35/40ml
Bleu Nuit (really Turquoise) - 25/40ml
Bleu Nuit - 35/40ml
Sienna - 40/40ml

Thanks everyone for answers.

Yesterday, I received two bottles of PR DC supershow blue. I have yet to test it with my beloved, stubish, 18K gold L2K nib, but the color seems nearly identical in a fine nib (maybe a hint of red hue I don't see in the Penman) The ink also seems to behaved quite well and on a printer paper is drying fast enough.

Sad that Penman Sapphire is so hard to find and so pricy, but this PR will be a nice replacement for it.

Once again, thank you all for the answers, and thank you to the numerous pele who took time to write about this Penman Sapphire replacement. Here a special thanks to Sandy1 for her amazing, amazing reviews!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
