Help me decide which pen and why. If you have any expierence with either do tell what you thought of it. Thanks

Here are the pens.

They are both snow and ice pens which if you saw my other thread you know that I have a liking for.

Hi,

If I were you, I'd pick the Pelikan over the Monteverde. The Pelikan is piston-filled, and while I do have some reservations about the snap-in piston filler mechanism that Pelikan uses and the trim ring on the grip section, I would pick it over the Monteverde and the converter system it uses. Nibwise, the Pelikan has a nib that unscrews for cleaning and replacement. The Pelikan grip section is also fairly comfortable.

Another vote for the Pelikan, based solely on looks. It's a lovely pen!

Just another thing too add the Pelikan is nearly $100 more than the Montverde. Don't know if its worth it.

Pelikan. Hands down.

And that says alot, because I have kind of an aversion of Pelikan and I generally don't like 'em.

The Monteverde looks like a pen from the Disneystore. Somewhere between Snowwhite and Cinderella, across from Alladin.

It is a Disney edition, I think that is the point. :)

But I will take your word on this and probably go for the Pelikan. Must admit it does look better.

I am the odd man out here, as visually I prefer the Disney one, as I like midnight blues. The pale ice-blue of the Pelikan, while ofcourse intended (Ice-theme) do not appeal as much to me.

But on a technical point I agree with the rest: the Pelikan. (although I do not know Monteverde personally)

Conclusion for me personally would be in this case neither. But if I would have to choose, even with the 100 price difference, it would be the Pel.

Pelikan, hands down. It simply looks better and at the business side of things, well, it is a Pelikan.

I am not crazy about either - but that is me. No experience with Monteverde pens but I love my Pelikans.....

I don't do "theme" pens like this though. But if you said you absolutely have to choose one of these pens - it would be the Pelikan. If only because I have experience with the brand.

Pelikan without a doubt. Monteverde are ok but a couple of steps down the food chain for sure! All my Pelikans are superb writers and totally dependable. I have a Monteverde which is a nail; not in the same league as any Pelikan.

I would pick the Monteverde. It's more interesting and special IMO than the Pelikan which is more expensive and less attractive. I prefer Pelikan to Monteverde as a brand but it's not enough to stop me from picking the better value and ultimately the more interesting pen in this situation.

So I have been thinking about this post and think you are right. The Monteverde is unique and less then 2000 are made. It just doesn't feel right going with the Pelikan for me. The Monteverde also comes with a nice wood box and bottle of ink. Disney pen it is! :)

Just a word of caution. I have the rollerball version of the fantasia pen. While the hand painting does make it an exceptional looking pen, I would be wary of the build quality. The little gem on the clip fell off after about a week. I assume this would never happen with a Pelikan.

Hi,

I would also take some caution with the Monteverde. As mentioned, a few people have had some issues with build quality. It might be something to think about down the road as that could be quite disappointing to have your pen fall apart. I also don't know the durability of the painting on the inside since when you put the converter or cartridges in, it may get scratched or damaged.

If you like the wintry icy look, try the Franklin-Christoph 02. I'd choose it over both the Pelikan and the Monteverde.

Edited to add: This is the 02 Smoke and Ice. There are different versions of the 02.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
