Mb 12 Nib

How does one determine the size of a nib on a MB 12?

I've disassembled it but there are no size markings on the nib, though there is a "12".

However, I assume that just indicates its a nib for an MB12 and not related to size.

A "12" size nib would be enormous... think that 149's nib is a "9".

If you mean nib width... Montblanc never put it on their nibs

You are correct, the 12 is for the model as in 12 or 14. There are no markings that would tell you the tip width range though.

A 12 nib does exist, only made prewar, two of these safetyfillers Rouge&Noir are on penboard.de.

First you can compare your nib to the table from here(https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/235433-montblanc-meisterstuck-14/) :

Then if you wonder if you have a broad or larger nib it's pretty easy: broad and over for 12-14-22-24 are very stubby

Thanks for the informative replies.

It is very stubby and broad so that's what I thought, a very very nice nib, I pulled it apart to get some confirmation ... seems there is no way to 100% confirm ... doesn't matter though, its the kind of stub experience that I have often paid extra to a nibmeister for, so needless to say I am very pleased!

We should start an encyclopedia on the 1x, 2x, 3x, 7x, 8x, 9x MB series nib sizes. So much possibilities according to the table but no markings...

Here's what I got:

Fine(22), Extra-Fine(14*), Broad(22)

* It's a 24 nib in a 14 barrel/cap

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
