Oh! Ink.

When I saw the subject of the topic, I thought it was going to be about Benjamin Lee Whorf.

"Who," you ask? Well, that's a long story, but, among other interesting accomplishments, Whorf was an authority on the Navaho language. Because of it's structure and according to the theory he constructed together with Edward Sapir, Chairman of the Anthropology Department at Yale, he hypothesized Navahos would have no difficulty understanding the theory of relativity, because the Western concept of time was foreign to them. Their equivalence to tenses had to do with the reliability of the observation.

Well, it is about ink, so forget B.L. Whorf. <sigh>

Nice color ink!

Nice mix! What are the problems that can happen when you mix different (brands of) ink, and how soon do they show up? I'd imagine it would be best to test with a dip pen, and let the mix settle for a day or two, in case any precipitate forms, but beyond that, I haven't a clue! And David - another on the list of things I must find out more about ...

I'm not sure what would happen. I would think that modern inks wouldn't cause a problem. I'll try another mix going to 3:2 its already fairly dark with a wet pen though. or go 3:2:1 adding water.

Also interesting about this Whorf character, thanks for the info!

I think it is beautiful!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Reminds me of Tsuki Yo or Yama Dori.

It was a depressing day, so I'm glad it looks nice.

Your image says Yama Dori, my Tsuki Yo looks blue black not turquoise.

OOPS, I meant Yama Dori. My Tsuki Yo looks turquoise, but not like this.

This looks like it runs more towards teal in the lighter areas.

I started messing around with an Apache Einstein mix, but the black runs all over the sunset. I've got to bring the black mix way down. Currently trying 3:.5 but more likely 5:.5 may be better. Its sort of interesting but i feel i just might recreate Golden brown. :/

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
