Can someone help with identifying this, please?

I think it's a debutante, seller states length just under 5". General price for this sort of thing?

Many thanks.

Has the nicer cap band. I'm not good to these...they are usually filler donors for other pens.

Seems a shame to cannabalise a nice looking pen just for parts!

Not when they go on a nicer looking pen.

Parts need to come from somewhere, unfortunately at this point, it is usually other pens.

Check out this link: http://parkerpens.net/duovac.html. I have three Parker Duovacs from the 40's and find them great pens, plus they have beautiful plastic. Here is a post regarding pricing: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/264808-parker-duovac-pricing-question/. In checking prices for retailers just now there is quite a range from $70-$195 (Fountain Pen Hospital and Peyton Street Pens).

Yes, Cryptos, a Deb Duofold Vac Filler. Is it a plastic filler? or a Speedline? In my experience an unrestored Deb runs more like $45-70. The senior duo's probably fetch prices more like whats posted above.

Just my $.02

They're great pens BTW.

Not sure why these pens have such bad press, I remember Griz didnt rate them at all in terms of looks, for me it is just the opposite, one of the best looking pens of the era, especially the black and rose pink. I collect the Service Sets of this pen, ideally with the leather pouch.

Good, crisp band on your pen, nice one.

Looks like a nice pen! I personally love the striped duofolds vacs. I am also very happy with their writing characteristics and currently have a 1944 Senior in Green/Gold with a fine nib that is inked and in use today for letters. Prices can be all over the place, but it looks like one in excellent condition and with a current restoration would bring close to $200.

The Seniors perhaps. I doubt the debutantes, juniors, or majors will reach those levels. But... I don't really know. Just guessing.

You're probably correct. The size of the pen limits the price it would fetch in the market as typically the bigger the pen the more desirable they are to collectors (a.k.a more money). Generally it's the Seniors that sell for $200+.

Still that's a lovely pen. Parker also made Sub-Debutante Striped Duofolds (I have a black one) that has two thin cap bands so that model was the more expensive Debutante.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
