Nice writing slope.

I don't know what these cost way back when... But you could call it the desk for people with little space. They were often used when travelling.

The box will hold papers etcetera.

I would not mind owning one like these.

i watched the ghost and the darkness

in the begining of the movie. They had a nice walnut stained slope in the tent Val Klimer's character was immersed.. I could tell Mr Klimer enjoyed this stuff.. Who knows if he is a pen person ?

'The Yo-Yo maneuver is very difficult to explain. It was first perfected by the well-known Chinese fighter pilot Yo-Yo Noritake. He also found it difficult to explain, being quite devoid of English.

So we left it at that. He showed us the maneuver after a sort. B*****d stole my kill.'

Today, one would find writing slopes in antique shops.

I don't know if anyone still makes them.

Well except for this custom shop

For my birthday 9 years ago, my bride gave me a writing slope box, which closes into a regular box. I know she got it from Haverty's furniture in Frisco TX, knowing that I had really admired it. At that time it was priced at $75, and I do not know if that was the regular price. I call it my analog laptop. ;-)

Not sure what the market is like over there, or how much time you have at your disposal, but here in the UK the best place to pick one up would be at a local auction. For items such as writing slopes you could realistically expect to pay only 50% of what you'd be asked to part with from an antique shop. On a poor day (for the Auction House not for the buyers) you could win one for a lot less.

I might add...try before you by one! Do a makeshift slope at home about the same size as you'd like to buy to see if you are comfortable using it. As much as I like these things I find them very awkward to use. My arm position (left side writer) does not like the raised ledge.

FP.

They were also called traveling writing desks if you're trying to do searches.

Yes the 'try before buy' advice is very sound. The type you showed is found by many to be too small for extended periods of writing. It is designed with travel in mind, to some extent, and therefore may not be big enough for you.

There are other sorts intended to remain on a desk semi-permanently; they are slightly. or a lot, wider, and do not fold up into a box, though often retain the fitted interior.

No, I couldn't find the picture of mine, which is on here somewhere, so I filched this similar off the web.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
