New Duofold Colours!

The Blue Knight

Recommended Posts

I chanced upon some news that supposedly Parker will be re-releasing a line of colourful Duofolds. I found this reference on the Goldspot Pen Blog, even though it's only a teaser I'm quite excited to see if they will be bringing back something similar to the stunning pens of the nineties and two thousands.

Exciting!

I hope they bring back the Big Red and Mandarin yellow. I wonder if they will be LE's or regular production pens.

Sadly I imagine so. I just find the current Parker line extremely uninspiring it would be really nice to see a bit of colour added to the Spartan line up.

That's a shame. Parker has already done several Big Red and Mandarin expensive LE's. I don't see why they can't sell red and yellow acrylic versions of their regular production Duofolds.

i'd like an affordable modern mandarin as much as the next fellow, but i somehow doubt that parker will do a pelikan M800 tortoise with that pen ;)

there's a bunch of desirable colors that parker can bring back (or even create) to revive public and collector interest in duofolds--the semi-mythical pompeian brown, for example, or even the moires. can you imagine a purple duofold? even i might go for that.

They look nice however I'm not convinced by the new I.M or Urban Models they look kinda cheap.

I miss the black ends in the Duofolds. I think it gave them elegance, without it they look cheap.

At $550 for Centennial size I probably won't be in the buyers group.

What do you think of the new colors and the lack of black ends?

After seeing the poster with lapis, jade and yellow, the actual colors are a disappointing let down.

This popped up in facebook too yesterday so I will drop the same remark here: if they could be bothered to drop a Sonnet nib in the IM/Urban, I might have a look at the newbies, the duofold are touching the Onoto pricerange so my interest is somewhat limited.

Hmmm. Even if the price was right the Ivory would never be for me. The Lapis looks a bit "shiny"? But the big red well... :)

Worse still: not only a narrow array of colors, but exclusive with golden trims?

Again the golden trims only?

Why so many brands think their pens should not have a chromed version? I wonder how much money they have not made due to this obstinate blindness for chrome.

Me too. I was hoping for plastics that looked more like the original. I know they can produce it because Parker still makes the black & pearl and they made a jade and lapis lazuli Duofold in the 90s from a mottled acrylic.

The new big red looks nice though even without the black ends, but like pakmanpony, $550 for the Centennial would price me out of the market. I'm not sure where the ivory came from? Parker never made an Ivory colored Duofold.

i've never really liked the streamlined DFs--i miss the chunkiness of the original seniors--so i'm not going to be in the market for these. would've loved that ivory as a square-topped, black-ended centennial (like the CS casein LE). or maybe one in woodgrain, like bexley did with their version of the duofold (this comes with a centennial nib and an original duofold clip):

Parker should do something like they did with the Bumblebee Duofold a few years back. A real striped plastic that is reminiscent of the Vacumatic.

Does anyone actually think the "Vacumatic-inspired" IM/Urbans look...inspired?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
