Shinkaichi Gold - Sailor Nagasawa Kobe No 22

I absolutely enjoy Sailor inks. It's a pity they produce so many amazing colors for shops in Japan, I would prefer to have a possibility of buying them from retailers based in Europe. Anyway Sailor's producent a lot of inks for Kobe city:

One of FPN members has send me some samples. There was Shinkaichi Gold among them.

It's interesting color, quite unique but if you like comparisons I would say Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-Ho is in a similar range of color, but it's not really that close.

Nice review.

Your chart of colours is out-of-date as they are now up to colour #48 - Suidosuji Marche Blue

AWESOME REVIEW!!!

I told you this was one of my favorite inks.  .... I don't think people can imagine how elegant it looks in an off white paper.

And Ina Ho is on the same family hue.... but is a complete different animal.

Thanks so much for this review...

Other colours that I think are similar: Sheaffer King's Gold (discontinued long ago), De Atramentis Gold, and J. Herbin Ambre De Birmanie. I might have to add this one to my wishlist.

Could you elaborate on the difference between this and Ina Ho? I was close to ordering the Ina Ho until I discovered this Sailor ink. Now I'm undecided between them, and unfortunately I don't think it would be possible to order a sample of the Sailor anywhere. Does one lean more green vs gold/amber? A writing comparison would be hugely helpful, if available.

Hmmm - I ran out of both samples so I won't be able to compare them :/

I believe Shinkaichi Gold has more green to it, more vintage look to it.

Both are nice.

I do have both.... I just need the time... ;)

I'll try this evening after work...

Thanks, what a great review. This ink looks beautiful. I can see the similarity with Ina-ho although I don't like Ina-ho at all.

Awesome - whenever you have a chance!

Wow.. that wasn't easy. You can clearly see in person the difference... Shinkaichi has a "gold" quality to it. Ina-Ho is more flat.

But, on the scan is much more difficult. You can't scan "gold quality".. you can only scan colors/hues... and they are both in the same family hue. Ina-Ho has a tiny more green than Shinkaichi.

Wow, what a great comparison! They really do look almost identical in the scan. I can see more of the gold you are talking about in the Shinkaichi, particularly in the places where the ink shades. I don't see as much shading in the Ina-Ho either. Is that your experience too? Do you have a preference between the two, either in terms of color, or performance?

And again, thanks for the comparison - you did a fantastic job with it.

visvamitra is my long time ink-traffiker/smugler friend extraordinaire.. ;) .. Once he asked me.. "Send me something special.. unusual, goorvy...".. I love "gold" inks... and I sent him my favorite.. Shinkainchi Gold..

I do like Ina Ho... but Shinkaichi has that 'gold' quality missing in most "Gold" inks.. (sheaffer's gold, bouton d'or.. etc)

The only other color that comes close to Shinkaichi... is KWZI #57 "Old Gold" ... visvamitra has a review of it. Look it up.

@Cyber6 - now that you've exposed us and our dark secrets I'm afraid other ink traficcants will try to get in touch. Maybe we'll establish INKLEONE family?

And we'll have a godmother or a godfather??http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/bad/gangster-with-gun-smiley-emoticon.gif

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
