Sources For Premium European Paper Brands In India

For any Indians on the forum who use Original Crown Mill, Clairefontaine or G Lalo paper, which ones are your go-to sources?

My first such order was for Clairefontaine from Goulet, but 60 days on...and the package never arrived. Not Goulet's fault at all- and their shipping manager was delightfully nice about the whole thing. I finally decided to get a refund.

I've since ordered a pack of Original Crown Mill from Amazon UK. I'd probably be paying a premium, but at least I won't have to worry about it getting lost in transit.

I guess ordering from Amazon UK or France would be a bit better both in terms of availability (European marketplaces should stock more of European brands, or so my logic behoves) and shipping- there are direct flights from Heathrow to Mumbai, and I live three hours away from Mumbai, so it should get here faster than from the States.

Regardless, I'm curious to know other sources for India if anyone knows any

I buy from Bureau Direct in UK. Shipping isnt cheap, but that is to be expected...

With international shipping, the delay isnt caused by the package getting to India - it is caused by customs taking ages to clear the package.

I guess WilliamPenn.net will be able to arrange these in India. I have tried various papers including Rhodia, Clairefontanie, Moleskin. But, I found TNPL (India) 80 Gsm and 90 Gsm papers are far better than these brands. TNPL made great paper from bagasse and are very pleasing to use with fountain pens. Recently, I have used camlin kokyuo papers. I'm amazed by its' quality for such a low price.

I think you should give these a try if not done so yet.

Is there a way people outside of India can buy these papers easily?

A friend sent me some notebooks recently and I'm blown away by the price/quality combination, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on her generosity every time I want a new notebook...

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure. I guess you visit their corporate website and drop an email about their availability outside India. website url is www.tnpl.com.

If you are talking about TNPL notebooks, it is hardly 56gsm paper is used to manufacture it and still it is a great FP friendly paper. Now, you imagine how good is their 80gsm and 90gsm papers.

And if you are talking about camlin kokuyo, you can get kokuyo notebooks easily from Japan than from India. The camlin company of India took over by Japanese firm Kokuyo 2-3 years before.

TNPL notebooks are sold as TNPL Student Favorites. These are not easily available other than Chennai. However, you can make better notebook by using their platinum paper 80 gsm come as bundle of 500 pages. It costs around Rs 200 and can be bought online from readers.in and some others online stores as well.

@Binod

Very remiss of me to not have replied! I think I forgot to add this topic to my notification list, so I thought I never got any replies! Oops...

Is TNPL Platinum paper absorbent, like printing paper is often wont to be? Or is it slicker....like the paper ITC uses, or Tomoe River, if you've used them

You can find Rhodia products on amazon.in and flipkart.com

Alternatively you can also contact the importer at info@abhimanintl.in

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
